After a full weekend with the Camaro, I'm starting to get used to some of its little (and not-so-little) quirks. But one that still gets me every time is the position of its interior door handles. They're down low. Real low. After dark, there's not a lot of light down there, and I always find myself struggling to get a grip on the handle.

don't you see the shine from it man?! i see it!
you must be wearing your COOL polarizing sunglasses in this fall weather with its gentle sunshine not to see it man!
sun glasses ain't cool for driving! sunglasses make you blind as a bat! and you ain't a bat who makes guano, are you?

I imagine an actual owner would get used to that pretty quickly. My old Saab had its ignition in the center console, and it caught me out for a couple days when I first got it.

Way to go GM! Instead of having a nice door panel with stitched leather, like the new Mustang, you decided to cover the whole damn thing with a really cheap looking plastic cover that exudes crap thus relegating the door handle to a completely, idiotically low position causing the driver to struggle to just get out of the car. All in one breathe.

My Fiat X1/9's was even lower on the door than the Camaro's and was never a problem.

I thought the door looked pretty nice in that photo. Is that the trunk release or fuel door release button?

I bet you would get used to the placement of the door handle. How do the Boston Acoustics speakers sound?

the door handle position makes sense because you're sitting kind of low and reaching forward is a natural motion. what gets me is the cubby hole in the door... why is it so small? they could have easily extended it all the way back. it really is tricky to get stuff in and out of it too.

Dunno about the door handle, but that is a great shot of the utterly craptastic Tupperware-grade door insert. Honestly, who the HECK signed off on this thing? Whenever someone whines about not understanding the criticism leveled at the utter cheapness of the Camaro interior, well, here's "Exhibit A".

Watch out jaeger....1487 will be here soon talking about door panel bias on this blog.

I was under the impression that the door handles were illuminated.
They should emit a blue glow, along with the strips on the door like the CTS, Malibu, Aura, etc.
That would make them pretty easy to see.

I know that looking at the picture it definitely looks very low and awkward, but I haven“t sat in one, so no real user experience feedback.

What an awful looking door panel. GM really screwed up on the interior of this car, in my opinion.

I have to say, that door panel looks so VW, I can't believe it won't look all scratched and be peeling in a year or so. My Challanger has a low handle as well, and is lit when dark. I got used to its location and reach low in any other car now first. And the reason the pocket below is so small is there is a cross beam running up and down just rear of the pocket, same thing on the Challenger. Only the Challenger door is long enough for another pocket behind that beam.
