2009 Nissan GT-R: It Makes a Real Impression, Even in Hollywood

GTR_717.jpg

Sunday I drove in our 2009 Nissan GT-R to have brunch with a friend I hadn't seen for 10 years. During this time he's become a writer-producer for the hit show "24." Naturally, I wanted to make an impression and show him how well I've done, too.

Turned out, he was out on his front lawn as I came rolling up his street. He rushed over and said, "I thought, 'That can't be Phil coming in that incredible car!'" Then he looked at it and said, "What is it?" I told him it is one of the fastest cars on the road. And it is a Nissan.

Being in show business, he was thinking Ferrari, Porsche, BMW. No, this is as fast as the big boys.

There's nothing Hollywood people like better than hearing about something they didn't know. Maybe Jack Bauer will be driving one soon.

In other news, we are selling the GT-R. So you can begin sending all the "I'd never buy an Edmunds car..." comments. Also, we took it to Carmax just for fun, to see what they would give us for it. Want to guess what their number was? And what about our asking price?

Carmax probably offered something ridiculous like $20k.

As much as I like the GTR, woe be unto the next owner of this vehicle.....

i'll say 20k too. AND i'll say that i'll never buy an edmonds GTR. Especially cause all the shit that happened to this car.

I'm not sure I would have a problem buying some of Edmunds cars, but THAT one? Come on people, remember that we can read all of the problems you have had with that thing. Better hope prospective buyers aren't Inside Line fans.

50K? I have seen a few on the road and they are nice looking but way too expensive to maintain.

You know the GT-R has been pretty obedient lately

Either that or IL just neglected to post the bit about the left axle becoming sentient and running off to Mexico

"AND i'll say that i'll never buy an edmonds GTR."

I would never buy an edmonds GTR either... I would only buy a Nissan GT-R.

Given all the repairs to this car, the purchase price is pretty irrelevant, you'll easily outspend that on repairs and maintence. I'll take a 1984 Ferrari 308 any day instead.

actually - The GTR has been pretty obedient of late. Maybe al the quirks have been worked out of it by now?? And considering the abuse this particular car has been put through it probably wouldn't be a bad buy and you KNOW that the maintenance has been done on it. I don't think I would have a problem buying an Edmund's LT car if it were something I happened to be looking for at the time I was ready to buy...

(Like too bad I'm not ready to buy a Flex... that one is tempting)

$54,000 Bob..er Drew. Personally, I'd ask for $65,000.

And no, I don't want one. I already have the Nissan I wanted.

bkochuk says:

whatever CarMax offers will be a joke. if you owned the car personally, it would be insulting.

and some Edmund's long-term cars would be worth buying from you guys--just not the sporty ones.

zcalvert says:

The editors may find it annoying, but no, I would not buy any IL long term car due to the performance testing, hard driving, and general lack of care most people show to cars that aren't their own.

Further, with this GT-R specifically, I'd question the sanity of anyone who would consider purchasing this car with knowledge of its myriad problems and insane upkeep costs. Sorry.

I agree with zcalvert - I'd not buy a car that was part of a fleet because borrowers / renters tend to drive with a bit more carelessness than owners (me included). I baby my Z much more than the rentals I use every week. Besides that, the upkeep on the GTR is silly - my Z is plenty expensive in tires and the like, can't even imagine how much the GTR would take outta me.

$60 grand @ carmax

How are you going to test it against the Evo if you don't have it anymore? Or am I getting the Evo GSR's state purpose in life wrong?

bodyblue says:

04:21 PM, 10/27/09

It is a $50,000 pile of crap....I cant believe anyone would want one.

estreka says:

04:25 PM, 10/27/09

Well, if Carmax offered $20K, I'll offer you $20,001.

subytrojan says:

Nice one, drewsrx! I think the fact that Kiefer's dad drives one was also mentioned in one (of the many) blog entries about the GT-R being serviced. :o)

huyracing says:

05:24 PM, 10/27/09

i've seen used GT-R's with low miles for sale for $55k. so i'm guessing they offered $50k or less...

maintenance is ridiculous... its right up there with Ferrari and Lamborghini. those cars might be worth it... GT-R is not.

stephen987 says:

07:43 PM, 10/27/09

Maybe you could replace it with a used Porsche. That way, you would still have a fast car, with annoying fellow owners, outlandish service costs, and the strong likelihood of gearbox failure, but the price of entry would be a lot lower.

huyracing says: "i've seen used GT-R's with low miles for sale for $55k." Yeah right! I suppose you date Megan Fox too....

If this car trades for less than $60k, even with it being an Edmund's car, someone's stealing it.

So when do we get the answer?
