2009 Nissan GT-R: $949 a Month?

GT-R-newspaper.jpgThis ad was in my local Sunday paper yesterday. Who would have ever thunk Godzillas would be sitting on dealer lots (notice the 2 at this payment) and the subject of a dealer's Autumn Savings Event and move-the-metal lease deal? Is the GT-R's 15-minutes up?

I'm not sure if the GT-R's 15 minutes are up or the American lifestyle of easy credit and easy money.

If i have to pay monthly installments for a car this expensive then I certainly don't need it in my garage. Be able to pay cash or simply purchase something cheaper.

Lets just hope they sell an extended warranty. Nissan just does not have the prestige to sell such an expensive vehicle.

Just a draw in for people that probably can't afford to buy it, but will live in it just to have one. Plus the fine print basically says you need to finance through Nissan motor acceptance (?) with $14,000 down for a 39 month lease and 12K miles a year. Not exactly a great deal

Ha! they neglect to mention the $50000/month maintenance / tire / repair cost.

seriously, this is a great sucker deal for those who overestimate what they can afford

Hondacura is right - if you cannot purchase a super car outright, you have no business getting into one, and you haven't factored in the maintenance and repair costs.

Now, for a lease valued at over $54K, you can OWN a lot of great sports cars!

How much is insurance too? That can't be cheap.

Well I see ads like this at Kerbeck in Palmyra NJ they have lease ads for Aston Martins, Lamborghinis, etc. Only $1250 a month and $5000 down

Bentley GTC for $2750 /month in Boston, 7500 miles limit per year. hahaha

did that say, "Automobile of the year 2110"?

saw a white one, then gray one, within a few cars of each other on the highway the other day going towards Manchester, NH. looks nice, but doesn't have that low-slung presence that a Viper or Corvette has.

I think that's the maintenance cost, not the car payment...

Excellent advice, but hardly anyone follows it.

this is why the economy is so bad... people keep living BEYOND their means.

Same thing happened to the Ford Cobra back in the 60s-after the gotta-have-its were satisfied, sales dropped, they stacked up at dealers. There's only a certain market size...

GTR, a rip off at any price...

One-stop bankruptcy.

to answer the original question: yes.

it's just not worth it.

hybris says:

The insurance and maintenance alone would kill me. And at that payment I think could put it toward a F450 in one of the upper trims too.

We all knew the hype and inflated prices were due to the hype machine. Its the same with the Camaro - after the hype is over, it will settle to a realistic sales volume.

LOL.....good catch, DLu.

So for almost a 1K/month you can own a car from the FUTURE......:-O

I just notice the 2110 and I have to say I didn't realize the GTR had a Dr. Brown package available.

A little rant (as a GT-R fan/owner). I can't resist from saying "it is the economy stupid!" In this country, we are on the verge of 10% unemployment with rampant inflation right around the corner. Saturn - gone. Pontiac - gone. Saab - bye, bye. Porsche - on the brink of bankruptcy.

The GT-R's 15 minutes in the bright light of fame - gone. The splash is over. But it can't be ignored that the R35 is a ground-breaking, gaming changing car. It deserves every accolade it received. Just because WE have a 15 minute attention span doesn't mean the GT-R's time is done. It'll be a "world beating" car for a long time to come.

Those who incessantly hand-wring and niggle about the maintenance costs don't get it. I'm fairly certain (no scratch that...I'm 100% sure) they either have questionable motives or have NEVER owned a performance car of the GT-R caliber. It ain't cheap. Neither is a 911 or Z06. God forbid anyone owns an exotic. So go buy your early 1990's 348 for 1/2 the price. After you spend $300-400 for an oil change...we'll talk.

Get your high performance car now while they still exist. Future fuel economy standards will surely narrow the field significantly in the future.

12K down and $900 a month, can't you BUY a new M3 for that kind of money?

No Thanks
