2009 Honda Fit Sport: The Little Things

Gas-cap.jpgIf Honda can put a gas cap holder on the the $14,750 Fit, shouldn't every car made have some similar accommodation? I think so. Keeping the thing off the paint is so nice.

I love the little things like this. I wish my 370Z had a similar little holder for the gas cap as it always hangs down onto the wheel arch.
The Fit is definitely Go.

Funny huh? The Nissan Versa also has a little gas cap holder. Often times subcompacts seem to have been put together with just as much thought.

dont most modern cars have a hook to hold the tether attached to the cap? I don't think this is necessarily worth praising in 2009. Shockingly, Honda isn't the only company that comes up with handy ideas.

Well, many people can't figure out that the tether is supposed to go over the hook, and since nobody reads owners guides... Ford just eliminated the cap altogether, although that apparently can have problems of its own if you corner as hard as test drivers.

My A4's gas cap has a groove in it so that it can be placed on the gas access door.

Yet Ford tops them all with the cap-less fuel system.

Some like holders, some prefer tethers:

Chocolate vs. Vanilla, I guess.

And yeah, Ford's cap-less sounds pretty keen.

My Kia Soul has this - very useful.

My BMW actually has a pointed tip on the end of the cap with a place on the gas door to stick it. Sometimes the little details make all the difference!

I have this car. A few points:

The lip is pretty narrow--several times I've thought it was on the lip, and it fell off and bonked the car.

The entire gas access door is plastic. I guess that's a money-saving move.

Good luck finding even a base Fit for $14,750. 2010 base price is $14,900, plus $710 delivery fee, and TTL.

The Fit *IS* a cheap car, but it is nice to have little touches like this.

Nice touches? Nice touches aren't always costly and are often priceless. More manufacturers should get a clue about that.

My ten year old car has both a tether AND a place to put the cap. Take that Honda!

Doug....do you like your Soul?

My Grand Cherokee has the same as the Honda and my Subaru has a tether.

The tether is easier but the cap rests on the paint. No big deal as my car is a beater but I might be concerned if it were worth actual money.

my 20 year old car has this.
