Last week we had our 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T serviced at La Brea Chrysler Jeep. We were a little off schedule, so this appointment satisfied the 12,000-mile maintenance interval and put things back on track. As expected, it included an oil and filter change, air filter replacement, tire rotation and various safety inspections. But it was pricey.
Total cost: $179.47

$179.47 is pricey? wish my 15,000 mile service was only that.

I paid $90 for a B1 service for a Honda. That includes the synthetic oil change, inspections, tire rotation.

Are all people in California made out of money?

It just goes to show you how much money one can save by DIY.
With multiple vehicles, a family could easily loose $500 (or more) on routine maintenance every few months!
In my experience, even the "time is money" ratio far favors the DIY. Even if you use the dreaded Jiffy Lube (don't do it) you will spend more time and far more money than DIY.

I've heard many horrible things about that dealership. I don't think you should go there.

Ouch - Ouch - Ouch. Unless that air filter costs $50 or more, I think that's a little much. I mean I can change the oil in all 3 of my cars for less than that. I think I might even be able to change the air filters too. Of course I have to do all the work myself but still, I'll bet an independent shop would be able to beat that price by a wide margin. And I know a quick lube place will do even better on price, but those are hit and miss in the quality of the work.

I brought my Mustang GT to the Frontier Ford of San Jose for a 5K mile service, which is just an oil/filter change and tire rotation. They wanted to charge me $200+ for that plus their 'recommended maintenance'. I refused and asked them to do exactly what the manual says. They lowered their price to $82. That was the last time I was there and I'm not coming back.
They also sent me an email recently telling me that my Mustang may be due for a 9000(!) mile service (Mustangs are serviced every 5000 miles).
They come up with random mileage intervals in between the ones outlined by Ford and try to fool you into bringing your car over. Disgusting.

How were you treated? Did they try and upsell you? Was it done on time?
