2009 BMW 750i: Has This Ever Happened to You?

2009_M3_intnav_BMW_blog_bluetoothfail_1.jpg

So I'm driving along with my 2009 Blackberry Pearl Flip (no more butt-dialing!) paired to the 2009 BMW 750i. Joel, a friend from college, is on the line and we're discussing the upcoming NHRA Winternational drag races at Pomona.

Suddenly the line goes dead. Another dropped call, I figure.

But the screen above is not something I usually see with a dropped call. I pick up the phone and Joel is still there, loud and clear. He experienced no interruption, but the call was no longer hands-free through the BMW's speaker system and built-in microphone.

Instead of a dropped call, the Bluetooth connection has inexplicably terminated itself. The BMW hung up on the BlackBerry, so to speak, or vice-versa.

It hasn't happened again but, then again, I haven't made more than one other call.

This unprovoked loss of the Bluetooth handshake is a first for me in the 750i or any other car in our fleet. Anyone else out there had this happen in their own car? I'm not sure if this is a car issue or a phone issue.

I've never had this issue with my Acura's HandsFreeLink. Although it was finicky with the Nokia N96 I used to use (it would never drop the connection though). Works very well with the iPhone though.

I have never had this either on my Jeep Uconnect system, like carguy622 my iPhone works extremely well with it.

I've had similar things happen at random with bluetooth headsets. Isn't technology great?

I have two Ford vehicles with Sync, both lose the bluetooth connection at times because of my phone, a old school LG VX8700. The reason is because my phone's outer shell is stainless steel. Looks cool, but hurts bluetooth signal. Your new phone may not have the greatest bluetooth signal strength.

Yep, the previous gen 7 does this to me pretty often. But I had given up on using blueturd while driving due to privacy issues.

sometimes when the phone battery is running low the phone turns bluetooth off to conserve energy. that might be what happened.

This has happened to me a bunch of times with my BMW 330i (2006). About twice a year over 3 years.
Very annoying.

THis has happened to me in our G37 but in each instance it was the phone and not the car that terminated the connection. I have an LG Voyager btw...
