2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS: No Remote Start
Why Ask Why?
By lowmilelude on September 21, 2009 7:25 AM
"Why does someone in California need a remote starter?"
For the same reason anyone would want fog lights, MP3 inputs, automatic wipers, seat warmers, seat coolers, power windows, a convertible top, steering wheel controls, cup holders, back-up sensors, mult-zone climate control, navigation, or anything else that doesn't come standard on, I don't know; a 1977 CJ 7. It just makes driving that much more comfortable and/or fun.
Full disclosure: Had remote start on a manual transmission in my previous vehicle, and I live near the beach. It was meh. Used it a handful of times when I first got the car, then never used it again.
2009 Hyundai Genesis V6: Passes the Trunk Test
Fill 'Er Up
By tjpark01 on September 21, 2009 9:28 AM
The trunk is cavernous in this car. I worried about the rear seats not folding when I bot it, but it does have a pass through. Brought home a 10 foot pool net last week, no problem. Is there a better 35k car out there?
By stovt001 on September 21, 2009 11:33 AM
The hinges barely take up any room anyway. That is one really nicely designed trunk. Pay attention GM.
More after the jump...

What about Natty Ice?

Oceans suck. Great Lakes FTW. You can get a cabin on scenic Lake Huron for a song and drink infinite PBRs for the true low-cost beach experience

Tire Patch How To
By jaden82 on September 22, 2009 2:27 PM
To patch a tire, I would remove the tire from the rim, locate the "tire's puncture", and lightly sand the area around the hole and clean it so it would have better adhesion. I then apply a layer of some industrial glue, then take a circular rubber patch which has a "tail" on the bottom. I push the tail through the hole from the inside of the tire and, once it's sticking out of the thread, I pull the tail out until the patch makes contact with the surface inside the tire. I let the glue dry to make the patch stick and then I thoroughly press down on every single bit of the patch to make sure there's no air between the patch and the surface. After that, I just put the tire back on the rim and fill it up. After that, usually no more leak from that hole for life of the tire.
2008 Ford Focus SES: Parting Shots
Reminiscing
By subaru123 on September 21, 2009 12:18 PM
Ahhh... the Focus. I remember the door handle falling off, guessing the Stig was in there and getting an honorable mention on the caption contest above. I'm glad to here it served the Fleet well :)
By bodyblue on September 21, 2009 2:23 PM
It did everything asked of it and did it reliably!! There are several cars in the fleet..all of them more expensive..... that cant say that. It was and is the right product at the right time and it is selling like crazy. Sounds like the perfect economy car to me. Now get a Lincoln MKS or a Taurus SHO....please please no more BMWs.
By uncanny_man on September 21, 2009 4:12 PM
I second bodyblue ^^. Flipping through the old posts, it's kinda funny how the predominant sentiment slowly evolved from pure derision to a sorta grudging respect.
By foxtrot685 on September 23, 2009 9:08 AM
Whenever I feel a little sad about this car leaving the fleet... I'll just go out to my '08 Focus Sedan and drive it in memory of this car :) I can also confirm the solid reliability of this vehicle and the manual transmission makes it even more fun to drive.
Also True
By louiswei on September 21, 2009 3:54 PM
It's also nice to get 300+ miles range after only down 5 minutes instead of 80 miles after a whole night...
Even Truer

That sounds good, until you realize you can't buy jerky and a Red Bull in your garage. :)

People always preach on blogs how trucks make no sense for anyone, but try doing that in a Prius!
By felonious on September 22, 2009 9:17 AM
Besides the safety issues, that is super-awesome. Trimming the branches directly into your truck bed is full of win.

Better Than Frog's Legs
By super_ongoy on September 23, 2009 11:15 PM
Bubble tea? It's some sort of sweet drink with frog eggs (or something similarly slimy) in them. Slimy and disgusting. Was all the rage in Hong Kong and other parts of the world where there were large concentration of Chinese population (Singapore, Malaysia, etc...)
Who needs lights? I keep mine off so that I will be used to not having them when I eventually get married and have mistresses. And no! I won't allow my mistresses to enjoy bubble tea in my car!

boring?? Indeed. But I like the sound it makes so I could actually just turn this on and listen to this instead of iTunes... :D

2008 BMW 135i: Farewell to an Outstanding Car
You're The 1
By bkochuk on September 25, 2009 11:29 AM
This was one of my favorite long-term test cars to read about. I'm sorry to see it go.
The good news: somebody got a bargain, and you didn't sell it to Carmax!
By stovt001 on September 25, 2009 1:16 PM
+1 to bkochuck's comment. This was also one of my favorite LT cars, and I'm seriously considering picking up a used one. Can't wait to see what replaces it. I'm hoping the replacement is also small and sporting.
2009 BMW M3 Sedan: So Refined It Could Sometimes Be a 335i
Well Said
By hondacura4 on September 25, 2009 8:04 PM
I think this car would offer me the perfect blend of high performance, refinement and civility all in one package.
Ive always loved past M3's for their somewhat juvenile Jekyl/Hyde personalities. However, I'm even quite fond of the E9X M3 even though its all grown up.
If I had to pick 1 car that would replace my sports car and daily driver yet met my all around high performance standards and expected levels of practicality it would be an M3 or M5 sedan.
Sure, there are faster high performance sedans, with more power, larger engines for less or similar money but the M3 still sets the standard in so many areas that are so very important to the true driving enthusiast.
Sweet Kentucky Ham

@hansverner: If you actually believe that's just BMW drivers, you need to get out more. I'm from KY and let me tell you, from Corvettes to Camaros and Mustangs to Monte Carlos, your typical bubba thinks he's all that and a bag of pork rinds when he's behind the wheel, too. The only real difference is the BMW owner's lips don't move when he reads a stop sign.

Since BMW drivers are so hated by everyone, a remote start might be a good idea... beep beep BOOM! lol.

I finally got one but it was for the Focus. Oh well! Thanks for bringing these back Donna. But where has the Stig been?
