When I heard we were adding a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro to our long-term fleet, I was so excited! Until I saw that ours was silver. Ugh. Bo-ring! Turns out Oldham asked the folks in charge of buying the Camaro to get any color except yellow because of the whole Bumblebee stigma.
OK, I realize color preference is all subjective and has nothing to do with the performance of a car blah blah blah but shouldn't a car like the Camaro be dressed in something a little snazzier or bad-ass? You know, to make everyone lust after it? As it is, ours seems almost invisible. So I went on Chevrolet's Camaro site and built my own. I like both five-oh magnetic reds -- Red Jewel and Victory Red -- and the black. Now that's better.
What color would you get?

I have always liked red for my cars. I was at Road America in Elkhart Lake, IW 2 weeks ago and saw a Red Jewel with custom tan hockey stripes and a custom tan and red leather interior. It was very cool.
It is a fallacy that red attracts the popo. White is usually cars that get pulled over more.

Yup, boring. For some reason red Camaros remind me of the 1980's TV show "Simon & Simon" so that just leaves black (of the colors mentioned, that is).

The silver reminds me of the GM Corvette concept cars so I like it. The grey would be aggressive. Black is a little too... obvious. The reds are ok but with all the sharp creases and "cutout" grille graphic, it would be nice to have a color that highlights them. So, boring as it may be, I would go with silver or grey. Besides, they would both go great with some nice gunmetal wheels

Ugh. Silver please. As anonymous as possible. Who really wants more attention when driving that thing?

I have a love hate relationship with silver. I love the low maintenance and that scratches buff right out, but it's not really a color to me. Myself, I love a nice blue, deep red, or something bright and crazy like orange or yellow.
Case in point: My TSX is Silver and the hairline scratches I get on it are hardly noticeable. My Miata in copper red is a beautiful color, but every little scratch shows!
As much as I like black on almost any car, I could never get black. I would go insane.
For the Camaro I like the Inferno Orange or the Aqua Blue. I've always had a weakness for orange. The Mustang comes in a very nice orange too.

I like the red and the silver. I saw one in a charcoal color, it looked amazing. I'm too lazy to go to gm page to find the color name.

Silver is the perfect economy car colour...
You can wash it or not bother.
You can wax it or not bother.
It just looks the same anyhow.
I love black on cars I care about. Sure it show the dirt, scratches, swirls and it really shows the salt but when you spend a good afternoon washing and polishing it just right it looks incredible.

Black for cars, white for trucks.
Exceptions:
Deep blue for some classics
Green, orange or brown for Porsches

I've seen a lot of silver Camaro's on the road. They look average. Not bad. Not great. One in my town has the brighter blue, looks horrid. However, I saw one with the deep blue and tinted windows...wow. Nice.
My ideal Camaro paint scheme would be:
Black
Gray Rally Stripes
Black Rims
License Plate. "EVLBEE"

Anything that isn't a grayscale color. No white, silver, grey or black. A fun car should be a fun color.

Black if your lean more towards a stealth Camaro
or red if your more traditional.
White is not color for virtually any car it shows rust far to easily the same could be said of silver.
If I could get a car with battleship grey (maybe metallic) then I can live with it.
Silver is just too common on cars these days.

Funny, I thought that the first time I saw the photo of the long term Camaro. I've seen yellow, red, silver and black in person, and the silver is just a let down. It works on the GTR, or an Aston, or a Porsche, but that is it for fun cars that can pull it off. I think the orange would have been good too.

I would Chrome it like they do in Dubai. I actually like the silver on the Camaro and Challenger, shows off the lines and with tinted windows they look tough. Personally though I would get black, I always say no more black cars then I buy a black car.

Honestly, I wouldn't get the car in the first place. I hate to say this, but it truly reminds me of the Solstice. It will have a year waiting list in the beginning, but fast forward to 2010, and you will have your fair share of leftover 2009's to pick from.
It's just a fad.
Buy a pre-owned 335 coupe or something....
I would get white by the way...

silver FTW!!
if i'm gonna drive the car regularly then i don't want to draw any more attention to myself then i have to. a cars lines should speak for themselves no matter what color.
garage queen to stare at and show your friends, ok, go with a black or red.

Since you already have a black Challenger, I wouldn't pick that.
Silver, gray, and white are too boring for this car.
So either of the reds or blue would be my pick.
I agree that Yellow would make every teenager come out of he woodwork and yell "Hey! It's Bumblebee!" Honestly, if you buy a car because it identifies with a fictional movie character (especially for a movie I really didn't care for), then you're sad. (Herbie comes to mind as well.)
If a cool guy was driving a car (i.e. Steve McQueen, James Bond, Magyver, etc.) then you try and identify with the person driving that car, rather than the car itself.

You're all bloody nuts.
Has anyone seen the Camaro in Cyber Metallic Grey? Especially with the RS package? It is the embodiment of badass.
It looks like the F-22 Raptor...not that having a car that evokes one of the most wasteful defense projects in U.S. history is necessarily a good thing, but still. Made of pure win.

I also did the "No more black!!!" until I purchased my newest A4.... In black, with tan interior. My favorite color sceme. I used to be a perfectionist when it came to scratches and swirl marks but now i'm not since I don't haev time to wax my cars 10 times a year like I did when I was in college. Yeah I have some scratches, but she still looks good after a nice wash.
As for the Camaro, black for sure. Dark blue is nice too.
And I agree with whoever posted above above brown porsches. I was messing around with the Porsche configurator online at work the other day and their brown looks sick.

Silver is a great color for a 1982 Corvette, 1994 Celica and Ford GT (Tungsten actually). On the Camaro, it's just OK. Not bad, but I'd go black.

Silver is the kind of car you use for something you really don't care much about. Right now, I drive a silver car and I never worry bout drying it after a nice wash or hairline scratches. My Old Man has a black corvette which is near impossible to wash, keep clean, and shows every single thin scratch and spec of dust. For me, it's either some crazy like orange, yellow, or a plum crazy challenger, or something not to flashy like silver or a deep blue or red.

Although the Camaro isn't my favorite-looking car, its lines are made for black. Really, any other color is a letdown. Silver? GM should have given silver Camaros a four-cylinder option, because it would look that slow.

I'm completely sold on red jewel tintcoat for now, but rumors are circulating that we'll get a green option next year (and by green I mean the actual color, not the pathetic image thing) so I might have to change. I agree completely with the color sentiment. As it is, I'm tired of getting on the road and seeing nothing but black, white, and silver. It makes me sad that we're so averse to some individuality and imagination. Color is even more important on the Camaro. The first 5th Gen Camaro I saw on the road was ignition orange, and the first thought that came to mind was "that is one car that simply needs a bright, flashy color. Anything else wouldn't do it justice."
The Camaro looks beautiful in silver, no doubt about it, but it just doesn't have the right presence that the car should be giving off.

Blue_Martian is absolutely correct here. I did intentionally leave grey off my list of boring colors just because CGM on the Camaro is both knee-buckling beautiful and scary aggressive as well. The F-22 similarity is especially spot on since that aircraft was specifically referenced in the design of the 5th Gen. Wasteful but beautiful - I think that fits the modern pony cars quite well.

I completely agree. It disgusts me how many cars are light gray and white now-a-days, what ever happened to all the red and green cars? Anyways, I'm almost tempted by the base camaro instead of a gt mustang JUST for its looks in aqua blue metallic with the black heritage wheels. Cyber gray looks pretty good too though, just not the light silver please!
hybris says:

To compare a Camaro to a F-22 would mean that this generation of Camaro is more of a test bed for new stuff for the next gen in that respect I can see how both car and plane were wasteful.
But nonetheless they looked pretty good doing it though.

I think for everyone who does not think silver (it's silver ice metallic) is the most fitting color for the Camaro. They must not remember the first time they seen the concept back in 2006. The Camaro is the best looking car on the road and driving one in silver is just icing on the cake.

i originally ordered the inferno orange since the blue's werent available when you were first able to place an order back in october, but i switched to the aqua blue when i became available and i'm so glad i did, doesnt look dirty after a few days of driving, slight color changes in different light, looks awesome, not a popular color yet. i havent seen another yet at any of the cruise nights and it gets alot of attention. this truely is one of the nicest cars gm has built.

Seen a few on the streets now in various colors. I don't think any color can make that thing attractive. What the heck is happening to our cars? They have ballooned in size tremendously, especially the coupes. Finally, why pay homage with the new Challenger and Camaro to the 70's, IMHO the ugliest decade of cars ever? What's next, a 4000 pound Pinto? No thanks.
