2009 Nissan 370Z: Clutch Pedal Problem

Z-pedals.jpg

The clutch pedal in our long-term 2009 Nissan 370Z has developed a notch (not quite a clunk), or maybe it's a hitch, in the first inch or so of its travel. You feel it almost immediately every time you depress the pedal. Not good.

We'll keep you posted.

The transmission has already been replaced in this car too. The G35 you guys had was plagued with clutch troubles as well. Not good.

Your particular Z seems to be pretty weak, considering how many issues you guys have had. Makes me wonder how these things will take 2 or 3 years of abuse from real owners... Not good.

Did you loan it to your brother-in-law too??

It's a durable bugger, huh?

So at 13k miles you're on transmission #2 and experiencing clutch problems with the Z.

And your GT-R has seen almost as many days on a lift as it has on the street.

Nissan is really building support for their high-performance endeavors this year. Maybe they should stick to building Cube's.

You might want to clarify why the car has 3 pedals to choose from. Many today seem to have no clue..

LOL at the Bro In Law comment...

Master cylinder or something on the clutch springs. I'd bet against the slave cylinder, as you wouldn't feel it in the pedal.

If you work the pedal with the car off and the hood up, can you hear anything? You could probably figure out if it's coming from the pedal/hydraulics or the transmission.

My money's on something that went wrong when they swapped the trans.

@ptcdwag what? "clarify why the car has 3 pedals to choose from"? i think anyone who reads this site and anyone at ALL over the age of 20 would know.

damn, nissan's marketing department cannot be pleased with how their performance cars are faring durability-wise in your long term fleet.

We seem to be way beyond loose trim pieces with the Z and GT-R (or annoying steering wheel designs).

Yea...nissan sucks.
Should have got a vette.
BMW's better.
GTR and Z are awful.
If it were my money.....
I hate the Z
I hate Nissan.

Ok...cool. Got them all out of the way for everyone else.

Wow, I was thinking about buying an Infiniti G37 Coupe...but after reading all the problems you guys had with Nissan cars (370Z, GTR, G35 Sedan) I'm definitely questioning their cars' reliability.

Maybe I'm better off with the new Camaro SS or next year's Mustang GT.

@ mikes 12 - I believe you left out something to the effect of:

"If this were the Camaro or Challenger, Edmund's would be screaming how this was 'totally outrageous' and 'evidence that American cars are inferior'. The bias among the editorial staff is massive. blah blah blah blah..."

@DCuerpoJr:

I have an '07 G35 S with 6MT and have had no major problems with it. A windshield washer malfunction was quickly fixed under warranty at the dealership.

If you really want a G37 coupe, I'd say go for it.

Any issues with the clutch/transmission on the LT 135i?

stoppre75 says:

I test drove a G37; its a nice car, but the clutch engagement is very sharp - making a competent driver feel like a novice. By far the worst manual transmission in its class. Also, the engine has a very unpleasant sound north of 4000RPM. Its strong as hell and built solidly. But for the fact that the driving experience is not fun both audibly and mechanically I stayed away from it. If you really want one, stick with the automatic.

Wonder if Nissan has contracted the unreliability disease from canoodling with Renault. (In Europe, Renault isn't considered a particularly reliable brand)

I have a 2008 Infiniti G35 Sedan w/6MT and I've had not problems. The clutch engagemtn felt initially sharp but it smoothened significantly after 2k miles. I'm glad I got the stick.

Neither is Alfa Romeo, probably why they failed in making a successful brand name for themselves in the US.

Yep, bring on the "I hate Nissan" brigade. Can't wait to hear the "lack of Nissan quality/editorial bias against American cars/BMW's are all perfect" rants.....

Oh wait, they've all already been said...

bodyblue says:

No they havent. Here is one more. It is a pile of junk. Now to the more important issue. God I HATE gas pedals that are attached to the floor just like a '70 Buick station wagon. I know that BMWs have it so it must be cool, but come on now, floating units have only been out for around 50 years now.

at least the cup holders on this car still work, right @mikeolan?

I just got a new clutch on my G37 with 5000 miles on the clock. It didn't fail but was acting up.
