In the daytime, the dash lights on the Mazda 6 glow a subtle red. But in the evening, they let their hair down and rock out.
The blue and red combo makes my eyes think they see purple.
I don't mind the look. Purple is my favorite color. But I think if I were on a long road trip, my eyes would tire of the neon-ish glow.
What color are the lights on your speedometer?

My hyundai has the plain old green/yellow, and it's really quite boring. The Sienna bumps it up to a blue that makes it look much more expensive than it is, and of course, the bimmer has the red (like mazda6s of yore).

The gauges on my Jeep are black face and light up white at night, the center stack is a subtle green. I like the look a lot, I just wish the blue rings around the speedo and tach gauges actually lit up.

My Audi's are graphite in the background, with white, legible numbering, and red with lights on.

My instruments are orange all the time. I don't have any trouble reading them in both daytime and nighttime.

99 F150 XL Black background with white lettering during the day and green-ish during the night.
Honestly I want ultra insanely bright red gauges for night driving at least.

I had an 05 Maxima that was totaled RIP however I found the Orange to be blinding until I found the dimmer switch.

I love that you can dim the gauges by pushing the button to the upper left of the tach...really changes the whole ambience of the car at night, and helps reduce eye fatigue especially when driving really dark country roads. I find these gauges exceptionally clear at night. Happy Mazda6 owner!

A lot of SRT guys change the color our to blue... there are even several tutorials and kits on SRTForums on how to change it out, too.

subaru--I have my instruments on at full brightness at night. The reason I do this is I have the headlight switch on to Auto (Lazy), and every time I drove into the parking garage, the lights would come on and the instruments would disappear (because I wear polarized sunglasses).
So, it's either take my clip-on sunglasses off and on every time I drive under an overpass, into a tunnel, or into a parking garage, or switch my lights on and off manually entering those areas. I decided to leave it in Auto (Lazy) and full brightness.

BMW white on black with orange lights. Pretty boring but it works. Also nice was my Passat's blue. The best IP ever was my 86 535 which had gauges as big as tea cup saucers. I wish they made them like that today. I'm not a big fan of multi colored IP lighting schemes.

I like the orange lit gauges in my car, they are easy to read during the night in day. Whenever i drive a toyota with the plane old white gauges, i have trouble seeing them unless im in the sun. Gauges should be well lit at all times, but i think the mazda overdoes it a little.

I kind of like the neonish glow--as long as you can dial it down for long trips at night.
the whole orange and red thing seems a bit overdone after all these years...

My brother would hate on something like this so much, he's so against blue lighting in cars for destroying night vision. Personally, I think the amount of light that it puts out is small compared to what your headlights output so it's a non-issue, but I do find that gauge lighting to be a bit garish.

White on black for day; reversed for night. '96 Maxima SE.

Got a 02 Focus...boring black with white lettering with dim green light for night. I had an aftermarket gauge background that would light up bright blue at nighttime. It kinda got old after a while and when it fizzed out thanks to my lousy electrician skills, I took it off and didn't bother considering another background.

I don't see why blue light is supposedly bad for night vision? My 2002 VW Jetta has red gauges against a blue background which is distinctive and still easy to see. My BMW 330Ci had orangish lighting, which is okay, but not as cool as the blue in the VW.

Agreed. The gauges in the 3er and X3 are easy to read both day and night. The Wrangler and 2002 have nice legible gauge clusters as well. The MS3's "Tokyo by Night" light show wears on me after a while.

I think the VW has Electroluminescent lighting like on certain Mazda's (GT trim or CX-9) which is supposed to reduce fatigue, I think the Elantra GT just ripped the lighting scheme.

My 2005 Ford Mustang GT has the MyColor dash with 125 different color options. I've tried a lot of them, but right now it's set to the classic off-white with a black background.

On my 98' BMW 323i they are black gauges with white numbers. At night the numbers glow orange as well as the needles. Most BMWs today still use the same gauges.

I like those Mazda gauges. Similar style and color scheme in my Mazda3. Definitely have to turn down the brightness at night though.

Black faced with red (slightly orange) for everything in my A4. Perfect at night, perfect in day.

I love the green and white lights of new Saabs. Very soothing. I specially like the white needles which have a halo vibe to them. Like the sleep lights on Apple computers.
