I like the front of the new Challenger, but I think its rear end is too large/tall. In that respect, I think the old Challenger has something going for it.
Overall though, I'd take the new.
But with the 20s.

Tough call.. If you get up close, the 70 looks likes like it is held together with sheetmetal screws and a prayer..(all cars were like that back then, so no offense to karl's car)

Based on appearance alone, I give a small edge to the original. Based on everything else, Comfort, handling, fuel economy, safety, I would rather have the 2009.

The new charger would look much better if you guys had ordered the 20" wheels. That standard 18"s are not only too small but the design is boring and plain.

In that photo, the new one. But seeing them in person I much prefer the old one. I do like that purple too.

Its hard to compare from these photos since the entry from 1970 isn't doing a burnout.

thanks for providing these photos. I have never been a big fan of American muscle cars, but looking at these photos, I think Dodge has done a better job in the retro dept than both Ford and Chevy.
And I like the new 09 one better because it's modern yet retains most of the cues from the old one.

I'm a sucker for the 1970 but mostly for the stance. The front end is lower and more menacing.
Today's cars can't get away with that because of safety regulations.

New one, hands down. I'm SO over old cars, having put up with one for almost a decade as a daily driver. That thing treated me like sh*t.
jkp1187 says:

Old one, without question. It's original. The new one is just a copy. And it looks like it's sporting a double chin, to boot.
redliner says:

The new one is so tall it looks like an SUV compared to the long, wide, low look of the original. But if i had to drive one every day, it would be the new one.

I'd have to go with the original - I'd be curious to know how much old Challenger the price of a nicely equipped new R/T would get me. Would it be a basket case or could I have something like clean like Karl's car?
funkymunky says:

Not even CLOSE. The original. Chrome, style, and freakin' PLUM CRAZY!!
hybris says:

The Old one for just looking great especially the wheels now if you rip out all new stuff from the 09 just use the old body I'd drive it everyday.

When it comes to the Challenger, I vote original.
If you're going to be not-fast and handle poorly, you might as well do it with authenticity.

Original.
clarkma5 says:

The original but 90% of that comes from the fact that it's so much less slab-sided. I do love so many of the details on the new one, and find a lot of the touches on the old one to be...well, 40 years old (that's the neutral way to put it).
DCuerpoJr says:

I like the original, but I'd rather own and drive the new one.
Better crash/safety ratings, it's got a warranty, and it's still a great car.
stovt001 says:

The original. It was relevant for its day and an original design at the time. To me, the new one just screams Uncle Rico reliving the glory days of high school football.
cx7lover says:

I like the newer one, I can't stand all of that nasty chrome outlining. Really makes it look like someone went crazy at autozone.

Get in the Zone! with Auto Zone!
Haha, sorry just had to say it.
Yes, I'm a dork.

Well, when I was 15 I got a 73 challenger, but then traded it off for a Barracuda. I still think the mid line on the Original Challenger is to much. I like the Barracuda better. With that being said the new Challenger has taken care of that, and it looks great.
I don't plan to choose - still have the Cuda and hope to add the new Challenger when it comes out in Plum Crazy.

Karl's old one looks great. It has a better stance and that great, low, wide look. Not a fan of the vinyl roof though!
I'll take the new one. It's got a lot of the flavor of the original but with modern safety and reliability.

The answer is you sell your girly-man luxury car made by a dude named Hans and buy both of them

I preference the new one, although I prefer the new Mustang and Camaro to that.
But I simply don't get that vinyl roof on the original. I must be too young to remember when or why that was ever considered attractive.
bankerdanny says:

Looks? 1970 no contest.
Which would I rather own as a regular driver, 2009 no contest. Give me a modern engine/transmission/HVAC system/Stereo/brakes any time.
The '70 would be more fun as a weekend toy, but it's hard to beat modern reliability and comfort.

honestly?? I like the PLum Crazy one... Put 'em side by side though and I'd think I'd still like it.
roadburner says:

The 1970 looks much better in my opinion. To my eyes the new Challenger looks like the Hot Wheels model of the 1970 car.
jyym says:

While I usually prefer classic muscle cars, the 2009 Challenger looks better than the 1070 version.
Otoh, the classic versions of the Mustang and Camaro look better than the quasi-retro versions of today.
eclogite says:

Seriously?! The top one, obviously. The new one it too fat. And I don't mean phat.
mickrussom says:

The new one is retarded looking. I saw it on the highway and in person. The 1970 is far better.
As Motor Trend and Car and Driver have pointed out, the Mustang has the new garbage from Chrysler and GM beat.
Crap from a failed government cheese failure company. Rip off pricing to boot.
