Good thing this is the Internet and not a piece of paper. Otherwise, you'd see my words blurred by the tears that are falling as I write this.
Our 2009 Nissan GT-R has been with us for a year now. That means it will be going away soon.
So, we're giving our little monster another turn as Car of the Week.

As an enthusiast, I have to respect the large amount of performance the GTR brings to the table but I wont miss it one bit.
Id like to see a Corvette Z06/ZR1 or a CTS-V as the next ultra high performance vehicle.

Loved reading about the GT-R. I vote for a Z06 to replace it. You can easily get $11k+ off MSRP on them nowadays. The maintenance is negligible compared to a GT-R.

I have actually been very hard on this car. But honestly, I like it quite a bit. Kind of like the Rogue, it is a car you need to see in person to actually think it looks attractive.
But, If i had the decision of choosing this new over a 911 Demo, I would be out the door with the 911.

I vote Porsche to replace it. I think we all know how a Corvette stint would go - praise for the engine/waxing nostalgic about the great American V8, quips about "Government Motors", acknowledgement that it is cheaper to maintain than its competition, complaints about the interior, complaints about the seats, and the continued insistence the steering wheel came out of a Cobalt (it was the other way around. The Cobalt got the wheel after the 'Vette. It doesn't make it a good wheel, but that is the truth). I suppose someone could make a similar list about the Porsche, but besides unless you go for the ZR-1 there isn't much new about the C6 that we haven't heard by now.

don't forget to run the GT-R head to head with project Evo X GSR please

+1
I want to see the GSR vs. GT-R.
Can't wait to see what you guys bring home next.

"...it was the other way around. The Cobalt got the wheel after the 'Vette."
Wow. Then that's even worse.
I am going to miss reading about this car. I've seen three in person and pictures really don't do it justice. It's really intimidatiing going down the road.
I was hoping would be able to see what the V6 Genesis Coupe was like, but then you guys got a Challenger (???). Then an Audi S5 (????), you guys already have an A4. Then ANOTHER M3 (?????) to replace the old one along with a new 7-series.
Fellas. C'mon. I thought this was Long-term road test blog, not a fantasy car blog.
Maybe now we can see Genesis Coupe (all new car like the GT-R) and how the coupe and the sedan compare.

Should replace with a Camaro SS or CTS V, but then again you should get cars that most people could afford or something that is on the sensible side like the new Subaru Legacy GT

I am so glad the GT-R is going away....I vote for Fusion or Milan Hybrid.....or even a Kia Forte (I saw the first one the other day and was surprised what a nice looking car it is.) No more ego stroking cars....get more like the Ram or Mazda 6 or maybye a new Equinox 4 banger..........when you made the lowly Focus the car of the week it produced the best blogging in months. It showed what people really cared about.

If you're getting another sports car, I'd like to see a base Corvette or a Genesis Coupe.
I've enjoyed reading about the GT-R. Its an interesting vehicle that is an appealing choice to me for many reasons. Shame about the reliability/major issues - but its only the first year.

They're definitely much better-looking vehicles in person than on the interwebs. Some dude in my town has a black one he prowls around in, very slick car.

the Genesis coupe would be fun. I'd like to see how it holds up to the abuse you guys (and gals) so gleefully give to your long-termers.

I know it's not exactly on the same level, I would love to see an E-Class Sedan or Coupe to replace it.

I'd like to see the Genesis V6 coupe (with manual) tested too. I just drove the V6 and 2.0 turbo around a small autocross course at a Hyundai event over the weekend. The manual wasn't bad, though not quite as good as a BMW's and the throttle was a bit laggy at take off, but it was nice otherwise. Handling was relatively good for a stock car and it was easy to drift around the corners (very controllable). The interior was very nice & roomy, better than a lot of GM products, especially the Corvette. The exception being the metal looking plastic that was the same as in a Corvette, and the turn signal stalks are only a tad better than the ancient GM turn signals GM used for decades. It's also nicely equipped (Bluetooth, USB ipod input, steering wheel controls, garage remote buttons). It was very impressive for a Hyundai and probably one I wouldn't mind telling people to check out.
Unless I was planning on replacing the suspension and putting go fast stuff on the turbo, I'd go with the V6.

Don't let the door hit you in the a** GT-R!!! Adios!!!! You're an awesome car but I've just had enough reading about you.

I say go for broke and get a Tesla Roadster. You guys talk about them so often, might as well read how the only car they have in production actually handles on a day to day basis.

There were no fast cars available in this price range before the GT-R- we all know that so how can it be replaced? I'm still curious as to how people claim the GT-R is so "advanced" when it doesn't have DI, torque vectoring AWD, ceramic brakes, magnetic shocks, titanium valvetrain, variable geometry turbos, etc. Maybe it's me, but where's the "tech" in this car? The dual clutch transmission? You mean the same kind I can get on a sub $30k GTI or RalliArt? When you add all the stuff that the GT-R is missing, you get the 911 Turbo which WILL have some that stuff and suddenly the price doesn't seem that ridiculous.
How about they replace it with a M3 coupe dual clutcher? Afterall, one Evo wasn't enough so how could one M3 suffice?

Get a Dodge Viper before Fiat kills it. Or get something boring and/or practical.

A sad day that i knew was coming. It really has been a blast reading about it. wont give my two cents about what i think you should replace it with. Im sure you guys already have something picked out.

"It is a car you need to see in person to actually think it looks attractive."
Very true. It looks a bit blocky and larger in pictures yet in person its much sleeker, compact, crisper and expensive looking (in a Japanese/techno kind of way). Its exterior panel fitment and overall exterior finish is worthy of its asking price.

Thank god, sick of hearing about it already. It's a tuner-boy's wet dream, but anyone with a little class wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Good riddance I say.
