2009 Infiniti FX50: How Big Guns Roll

09-infiniti-fx50-parking-lot-555.jpg

This weekend I drove our 2009 Infiniti FX50 AWD north to Sacramento. The super buff FX scored more looks and comments than anything else I've driven through California's central valley.

Stopping for a quick caffeine fix on I-5, I pulled into the parking lot alongside a Mercedes SL and Porsche Cayenne.

A 20-something guy ambled by and shrugged toward the FX50. "That's an awesome car," he said.

I nodded my head and mumbled, "Thanks." Then I stopped, considered the German company the Infiniti was presently keeping, and asked why he liked it best.

He rolled up his Green Day t-shirt sleeve while striking a body-builder pose and winked, "It's so muscular...like my own guns."

Uh, don't look for me behind the wheel of the FX50 again anytime soon.

Wow... nothing about heaven missing an angel. Plus he has bad taste, not in women, but cars.

I wonder if Infiniti designed the FX for guys like that....

No, the Miata is designed for guys like that.

Let me guess, douche-boy probably drives a clapped out 12 year old Mitsubishi with plastichrome spinner wheel covers.

Was that Lysaght?

fuhteng: I would never do anything like that, and I love my Miata. Try and find more fun for the price.

... Did the definition of "muscular" change? I wouldn't call the FX50 "muscular" unless the sole qualification for that is "big". The FX50's is more "curvaceous" or "svelte", with a hint of "mean".

Maybe that last is what makes it seem "muscular".

I'll take the E90 M3 for the "muscular" category, thanks. Or the G8.

I'd take the Cayenne GTS, in that color, over the FX50 any day

he he he carguy, I'm teasing about the Miata. I think one would be great fun as a weekend toy.

That being said, I saw a pink one yesterday. In the bible-belt. Wow. I think that is a sign of the apocalypse.

I like how none of the cars have front plates....

SnakeDoctor - "Was that Lysaght?"

Snap! Albert, you and Mike should play chicken with farm equipment and then release the rest of your pent up animosity through the art of dance.

Or if that doesn't suit you, maybe you can get Kelly to scalp you her tickets to the gun show.

Someone got hit on this weekend.

Kelly, in this case the problem wasn't the FX, the problem was that you're a woman. Which is only a problem in the sense that men will often say idiotic things to you simply because you are, as I noted, a woman.

I'm sure if you'd been driving a Camry, he would've found another excuse to talk to you.

I can see now that yes the FX50 does seem to have a lower angeryer stance than the Porsche but past the headlights its just another rounded blob of steel.

Amusing thread for a number of reasons:

I live in Sacramento.

I work out a lot and have decent "guns."

I have an FX.

I have a "weekend Miata" in my garage.

My wife is cute, and gets "checked out" a lot in our FX.

Other than the grille, the Cayenne looks like a run of the mill SUV. Having said that, I think you guys should get a Cayenne or Land Cruiser in the fleet :D

I've always thought the Cayenne looks like a frog. So would you rather drive a frog or a radioactive catfish?
