2009 Dodge Ram: A Delicate Question

Dodge Ram Step Up

I'm not sure how to ask this while still maintaining some level of decorum, but here it goes. How do you climb into a tall full-size truck without crunching the business?

If I go one leg in/up, as I would in any other vehicle, that ends with the, er, gents landing first on the edge of the seat. I've tried other forms of ingress using the grab handle to hoist myself upward first, but that always ends with some awkward folding procedure between the door, opening, wheel and seat. Maybe there is no easy way of getting into a tall truck.

Because of this, I'm not sure if shorter people would have an easier or harder time climbing aboard the Ram. But I do know that women would find it less, er, crunching.

Can't speak for how the seats are arranged in the Ram, but I usually reach for the A pillar in my sierra, plant my right foot near the E-brake, and vault my butt on to the bench all in one motion. You don't have to lean up on the corner of the seat if you fly your backside over the whole thing.

Sounds like more "support" may be needed to minimize the impact and keep things in control. For everyone's sake and for maintaining resale value of the LT fleet, I hope you are not going commando, Mr. Riswick.

that's easy, the designers figured the primary users of this vehicle would either be women or insecure men with small "business" :P

Trucks may make it a little uncomfortable for the wedding vegetables, but women have to worry about pulling a Britney every time they get out of tall or low cars in a skirt.

Chapter 100,000 in why I'm glad I'm a guy.

Easy. Right leg in, pull yourself up with left hand on a pillar grab handle. No damage to the goods.

Gotta get some nerf bars or running boards for that baby!

I'll admit I'm not every tall but I just grab the steering wheel and either get my left leg in and kinda bounce in to the seat or grab just the wheel hop and swing into the cab.

I would like to note one thing though I have a bench seat (and a 2 inch lift kit) so these ideas of entry may or may not work on the captain's chairs (bucket seats) that the Ram has.

If Edmund's is willing to add a running board or bar to the Ram then that would help as well if you can't seem to find away to get in with out smashing the kahunas.

you just have to rearrange once you get in. That was really the only solution I could find. You guys definitely need to add some kind of assist step on there and that will help out a little. Until then, man up.

this is why most people put step ups on their trucks.

Nice cynic.

I still want to see the picture of Caroline getting into and out of it.

I used to put left leg by the pedals, one hand on the wheel and one holding the grab handle. Essentially, I'd stand there, pivot and slide.

Of course that was a 2500 with little to no wheel adjustment, a bench, and I'm 6'5".

Get married. You get your "gents" removed that way, and it doesn't even hurt much. Its sort of like freezing to death. You fight it for a while, then you get sleepy and lazy, longing for the sweet embrace of death. You'll start to accept the inevitability of weight gain, then one day you discover that you are a torpid, neutered husk of a man comfortable with having your opinion given to you by others.

Sorry, I always get sentimental around my anniversary.

Lemme guess crow, you drive a Camry?

Running boards are the best solution to that problem, but I see your Ram didn't come with that option. I use them often on my Suburban.

The other culprit with the Ram is it seems like the lower seat cushion has some pretty large side bolsters that stick up and can hit the twins. Why the engineers decided to put sports car side bolsters into a full size pickup, I have no idea. The lower seat cushions on the buckets I have in my Suburban don't have any side bolstering to speak of, and are almost flat.

Are running boards *optional*?

It's kinda surpriseing that this "Decked Out" Ram Larmie which has more chrome than some Peterbilt big rigs doesn't have chrome steps.

Anyone else notice that?

All over this country, millions of times a day, men are able to get into and out of their trucks just fine. Find a real problem to whine about.

True, you'd think Chrysler would have jumped at the chance to add more chrome. That and more Ram logos.

I just checked Dodge's website and Edmunds intro for the Ram and the Chrome Tubular steps appear to be only available with the Chrome package which the LT Ram lacks.
