Our long-term Ram has 2 convenient cupholders in the center console. But it also has 2 cupholders (actually bottle holders unless you want some major spillage) in each door that are below the seat.
You can reach down to grab the bottle, but it's very inconvenient. And if you try to pull the bottle up from there, you may do a deep bend that will take your eyes off the road and might put a hurt on your arm & hand because of the tight clearance. Weird.
I suppose you could keep the drink in there until you stop for your picnic.

I'm guessing it's more for storage of drinks than for using it all the time, unless you have 4 drinks for 2 front passengers at a time.

Now this just seems like lazy engineering on Dodge's part.
Unless now that I think of it maybe if you can stuff a 1-liter bottle of soda the bottle will be high enough to grab without undue risk.

I think it just the answer for this country's obsession for as many cupholders as you can have in a five passenger vehicle.

Sorry about the double post

My Tribeca has these but they are placed forward of the seat not directly next to so there is plenty of room for bottles.

The door engineers were apparently not very well acquainted with the seating engineers.

Dodge engineers may have said they were storage for extra bottles because the two front passengers would use the console ones and rear passengers would use the rear cup holders.
DOES THIS CAR HAVE THESE THE SAME BOTTLE HOLDERS IN THE BACK DOORS??
subaru123 says:

My Prius lacks these door bottle holders for the rear doors and that means a 5th passenger would have to keep there drink up front. But this is far from the worst problem that the Prius has.

My 2008 Sequoia has these, too. These are secondary bottle holders - you use the ones in the console for your open bottles. I see no problem here.

maybe there is a 4' long straw hidden in the glove box...

That 'leather' on the seat looks very vinyl-y.

I see A LOT of vehicles with this same secondary bottle holder. It's somewhere to put an unopened bottle of water or whatever, instead of having it roll around on the floor.

I agree that it's a secondary bottle holder and not for using to constantly grab a water/drink bottle out of. My truck has one in each door and that's what I use them for. The one that am using goes in the center console. When that one is empty, I grab the one in the door and replace it with the empty one. Makes logical sense to me.

Why would you need more than 2 front cupholders anyway? Obviously for long trips a bottle of water is nice, but the two front center cupholders can cover the driver and passenger. I fail to see the issue here.

Americans love cupholders :-D

My Kia Soul has the secondary door holders too, but they're accessible from a normal seating position.

Seriously, why do Americans NEED all those gigantic cupholders? Isn't driving exciting enough for people? Do they need to have a drink/eat/text/update Fcebook/Twitter while driving???

I think a lot of people will consider commuting more of a chore and would like to "multitask". I'm happy if the center console or center bottle holders are large enough to fit a good sized non-plaster water bottle :)

Is it just me, or are those some seriously large thigh bolsters for a truck?
brooksbell says:

This being a truck these are obviously WD-40 holders. Make mine a rusty.

Or if you're outside of the truck loading/unloading/working/etc, having a drink in the door might be more advantageous than having to climb back into the cab to grab it from the center console. Just a thought.

I think the seats look pretty good. Nice stiching, and yeah, the side of the seat is vinyl, not leather. That's a good thing in a truck.
