It's not all skidpads, slaloms and smoky burnouts at Inside Line.
We spend an awful lot of time at car washes and gas stations.
The light interior of our BMW 7 Series is starting to show some dirt. The seats are holding up fine but the footwell is showing the grime of dirty soles.

Get the rubber floor mats. They're much more durable and much easier to clean

I have no idea how light-colored interiors are so popular, they just don't hold up...

i do not like light colored interiors. dirt shows up too easily.

But you guys are so careful with your long term cars... I can't believe this. Must be subpar quality on BMW's part. (No offense to you personally Donna).

This is why I never get light colored interiors, especially grey. Grey shows a lot of dirt, while tan has a way of camouflaging some of it.
Also, for 90K, I expect the aluminum on the pedals. Then again, this is coming from the brand that charges you for floormats....

My parents had a 2002 Taurus with a light beige interior but the carpeting and floor mats were a chocolate color. I thought that was a nice idea. Hid the dirt well.

My '06 Jetta has a beige interior (very much the same color as the BMW) and beige carpet, the mats are pretty bad now at 3.7 years/60k miles although they are original, the carpet does not look bad until you see the carpet protected by the mat. :)
VW got smart and started putting black carpet into the beige/gray interior cars starting in '07 I believe.
None the less beige is a great looking interior color.....but I am switching back to a black or anthracite interior next go around. :)

Perhaps it's time to go to confession and repent your sins. :P

Black doesn't hide it as well as you might think. Specs of white dust and stuff everywhere. As boring as I find gray to be, that will probably be my next interior color.

I know hiding dirt with a darker color is...ahem... .....convenient but its GROSS! Why would you want to HIDE dirt? Do you hide dirt in your home? Just think of aaaallllll the things you step in while walking and think of all the stuff that could potentially be in your carpet.
Get it cleaned professionally at least 1-2 times a year, its not that expensive and its worth the money. It keeps the carpet and other materials cleaner than not doing so and the dirt among other things wont have a chance to sit in the warmer months to stain the carpet. Or if you have your own equipment, purchase a good quality and safe (preferably organic) cleaning solution and do it yourself.
I get my 03 Acura CL-S 6MT interior cleaned professional 1-2 times a year and my wife's 05 Odyssey Touring cleaned 2-4 times a year because of the amount of traffic the interior is subjected to. With 5 children its a must.

My sisters black 2009 Hyundai Sonata Limited I4 has tan leather, black carpet and really dark charcoal floor mats. The color combination and contrast are striking yet very attractive. In terms of dirt she's as OCD as I am about getting her car professionally cleaned as she has 2 young daughters. She hasn't had it detailed yet as its only a couple of months old.

so BMW is at fault because you guys have dirty shoes?
thats like saying a grocery store is at fault for spoiled meat after you left it on the counter for three days.

Lay down $20-30 dollars and get some rubber floor mats and you'll save money and most of the carpet.

@adavis2493,
"Also, for 90K, I expect the aluminum on the pedals. Then again, this is coming from the brand that charges you for floormats...."
Aren't aluminum pedals a little aftermarket-ishly cheesy? I wouldn't expect them on a 7-Series.
Carpeted mats are standard on all Bimmers but the 1 and 3-Series. However, all Euro-Delivery 1 and 3's get them included no charge and outside of that your dealer will almost always throw them in for free. So no one is actually paying for them.

Also, it should be noted that the 7-Series is available with all-beige (Oyster) like the Edmunds LT car or as Oyster and Black, with black carpets, lower doors, etc.

Lets also not forget that the people driving this car do not actaully own it. They don't care how it looks. They take no extra caution or effort to make sure that they are not scuffing up the interior.

Even more annoying: After the guys at the car wash vacuum the grime off the mats, they run the car thru the wash -- where a guy standing in a greasy puddle gets into the car to drive it off the line. Now the driver's mat looks worse than when you brought it in.
This has happened to me A LOT lately, at different car washes. In fact, somehow it seems to me that car washes in general have been getting very crappy over the past couple of years...and I consider myself pretty easy to please.
