2009 Audi A4 Avant: Pebble Beach on the Cheap

audi-a4-avant-motel-555.jpg

This weekend, I drove our 2009 Audi A4 Avant up north to catch some of the annual car events on the Monterey Peninsula.

From Carmel to Seaside, hotel rooms will cost you an arm and a leg, so I resigned myself to booking a pretty low-level motel.

Judging by the company that the Avant was keeping in the parking lot, I wasn't the only spectator who was just happy to find an available room with running water.

Do all Flying Spurs have the chrome around the taillights?

Oddly the Bentley looks the most out of place, it's just a giant boat sitting in the center IMO

That's not a Kia Amanti?

"That's not a Kia Amanti?"

My business partner just got an Amanti. He's fully aware of how closely it mimics (rips off) the styling of Mercedes in the front and Bently in the back, but he loves it and got a great deal on it.

stovt001:

I don't see much Bentley in the Amanti, but I see a lot of Towncar (1 word?)

I hate the Amanti. Terrible suspension, terrible gas mileage, very cheap feeling interior, slow and ugly.

I had the misfortune of renting them for several weeks. For some reason Hertz had them as the same category as the G35 sedan and thought they were giving me a nice upgrade from the Ford Taurus "full size" reservation.

Maybe they spent all their money on the cars and couldn't afford a nice hotel. ;)

Are those wheels on the F430 really that ugly, or am I making things up because of the small picture?

I just realized that the first 3 cars are all from VW AG, and they all have a few bits in common, even if it is just navi software etc... anyways just thought a little serendipitous.

Makes the Lambo look quite small.

@ fuhteng,

LOL, didn't even notice b4. looks like those cheap hub caps people put on their Corollas with wings ... no offense to Corolla owners :)

LOL - yeah Hertz has gone down the tubes lately - ever since Ford sold it. I reserved a Mustang convertible a year or two ago, and they tried to give me a Toyota Solara when I got there, saying it was in the same class. I told them the hell they are! I got a Mustang after I complained.

Then they gave me a Hyundai Elantra and claimed it was their mid-size car. I'm like BS - not long ago the Elantra would have been considered a sub-compact.

Unfortunately my company requires me to rent from Hertz exclusively. If it wasn't for that, I would never rent from them again.

Wow. Makes your 40k Audi look cheap and chearful.

Wow. That's a good 3/4 of $1,000,000 sitting right there in a hotel parking lot. Only in California; I would have been hyperventilating. lol.

For some odd reason Ive seen quite a few Bently's in my area (Lexington, Ky) of late. I'm only saying this as its extremely rare to see this caliber of car in this area as the car of choice among the wealthy here seems to be the Mercedes SL or some mega dollar SUV.

Ive seen 2 sedans like the one in the picture around town for about a year now. I saw a pearl over camel Bently convertible this past weekend and on the way home from work today I saw a navy convertible.

Ive also seen a pearl white last generation Maserati convertible with an overly aggressive, overly cocky driver. After the GT35R turbo addition to the S2K Ill have to make it a point to wipe that grin off his face.
