Here is a preview of the Mitsu Evo GSR getting some new modifications. Right now our blue Evo is down at Road Race Engineering in Santa Fe Spings, California getting some much needed speed for its appointment with the GT-R.
On the agenda is a larger Garrett turbo complete with a tune on the chassis dyno, a much-needed new clutch and few other goodies. We'll give you details tomorrow.
More photos after the jump...

*whistling* this thing is going to be a monster.
I'll be interested to see if the IL staff still thinks the GSR is daily drivable after this round of mods. And what the final cost is.

holy cow. i knew people were hankering for a laundry list of upgrades, but i never thought you guys would actually spring for a new turbo. truly can't wait to see what happens... this will be legendary.

Although the Evo X's can make good power on the stock turbo with bolt ons and a tune, I was expeting to see a new turbo charger eventually.

new injectors, pump, and turbo. ~50hp increase on cali piss gas. unless u guys go e85?meth?

So... what's the new turbo?

The new turbo should put them in around 400-450whp. While cali gas does suck, its all about air intake temps when meth comes into play. So depending on the size of their turbo they could be in the 400's on pump gas, its just air/fuel then. Meth would be a nice touch though.

Garrett makes great turbos. 450whp on stock internals??? Sounds suspect to me. If they're looking at that much power, they should really invest in upgraded crank, rods, and pistons. Otherwise, it won't be too long before it goes KABOOM!!!

Its been done before. Take a look at the evo forums. People have been in the 400's with the X motors no problem.

I didn't say it hasn't been done. I'm sure it has. I just question the longevity of those engines with that power level on stock internals. I don't think any of them are really old enough for anyone to say that its proven reliable to do so.
Every engine has its limits on stock internals before they puke. And I'm not talking about hitting the power once on a dyno - I'm talking about leaving it in the full power mode all day, every day, flogging it on a track at 10/10ths for 30+ minutes at a time in 100F heat, etc.
So what are the Evo's stock internal limits for durable power? Does it come from the factory with forged pistons, crank, and rods?
