...Because it saves me from having to find my way through this mess of buttons. Thanks, Sync.

I had a loaner '09 Focus for a few days last week and was thankful for the buttons. Since I didn't know, or cared to learn, the voice prompts the buttons made connecting and operating my phone a breeze. I especially liked the ability to dial with the number buttons below the CD slot.

The non-Sync related buttons were intuitive though I wish the trip computer functions weren't buried so low.

I just noticed that the HVAC & audio control button assemblies are the same. They aren't too bad, either. Economies of scale, baby.

It's certainly cleaner than most Japanese dashes. Acura, Lexus, etc are very button happy. Me, I like the minimalist approach. That dash is no problem- everything is clearly labelled and non-cryptic.

You think that's bad, get an Accord!

From what I've previously read here about Sync and other voice (non)recognition systems, they don't sound worth it. If they can't reliably recognize what I want them to do and I have to repeat the command more than twice, that means to me that the technology isn't ready for sale yet. So, I'd learn the buttons in that case.

It's like the automated phone systems (IVRs) that supposedly respond to voice commands, but don't work perfectly either. I speak clearly, and they still sometimes don't understand, and they're slow to respond also. So - they fail the real world scenarios.

^ I agree. "Voice" recognition systems are no excuse for poor control layouts.

I have Sync in my car and I'd say that 95% of the time it works exactly as I expect (with regards to my iPod). Most of the time that it doesn't work is when the song details don't match what I expected - like the Artist listed for the song is not "John Smith" but rather "John Smith with Jane Doe". These kind of things are easily fixed in iTunes.

Bluetooth for the phone works about 80% of the time. The other 20% of the time, Sync is having a problem or my phone is. If it's my phone, then it's possible to get it to connect by going into the Bluetooth settings. If it's Sync, you have to turn off the car and turn it back on (reboot). Neither is possible or recommended while driving. ;-)
