2009 Suzuki SX4: Airbag Warning Light Saga Continues

09.suzuki.sx4.sadservice.555.jpg

This is a sad day in the world of Suzuki service. Over a month ago we special ordered a part to extinguish the airbag light on our SX4's dash. Our service advisor at Cerritos Suzuki informed us it would likely take 2-3 weeks for its arrival. That timeline had come and gone. So we contacted the dealer again.

"I'm very sorry, sir. Your order was suspended. You may want to order parts elsewhere."

Shocked as to why the order was cancelled and we weren't notified I dug deeper. What did order parts elsewhere mean? They owed us an explanation. But his polite, matter-of-fact response made me feel a little guilty for asking.

"Sir, parts are on hold because there is question as to how much longer this will be a Suzuki dealership."

Oh. Well, that sucks for everyone involved. Back to square one.

(And yes, that bench is as crooked as it looks)

Suzuki dealers have been dropping like flies the past year or two. In a few years Suzuki may no longer be in the US market at all.

I think the walkway is crooked... it's not the benches fault.

I can honestly say that I have never seen a Suzuki dealer in my entire life, and the only suzukis you see here in Detroit are those old Geo Tracker like things they used to make.

My Suzuki Dealer just disappeared, so did my Isuzu, and Mitsubishi....

I don't even have a local Ford Dealer Anymore!

Lol! Atleast unlike the local Suzuki dealer near me, your dealer didn't get busted for drug money laundering!

I think we might be seeing the end of Suzuki's time in US. They have no dealers in even major markets, very few good models and a tattered reputation (Thanks GM Daewoo!!)

Back when I was growing up in India, Suzuki was/is known as a Small, Efficient & Reliable car company. (Alto, Swift, Wagon R...). When I came to US, I thought of buying a Suzuki & I was shocked to find the abysmal lineup here. I couldn't believe Suzuki could get away with peddling the GMDAT crap like Forenza.

What a shame.

@Wobby_Ears: Joe Gibson Suzuki as well?

But yeah, i've seen a LOT of Suzuki dealers dropping like flies... and they all deserved it.

@mikeolan

Mike, I don't know. I heard the news on the radio few days ago & they didn't mention any names. Since we don't know, I don't think it is appropriate to drop names.

Look at the phot again. See how the word "Sales" has been covered-up where you'd expect it to read "Sales & Service"? Mike didn't do that in photoshop. They're done for.

@actualsize

A very astute observation! But if they just become a service business, shouldn't they still order parts?

actualsize says:

Of course I meant to type "photo". Anyway, I think "service only" status isn't a very stable or long-lasting condition, especially when you're servicing Suzuki and -- as it says in the left-hand corner of the windowpane -- Daewoo.

@actualsize,

Wow, dude! You do observe pictures more carefully than I do! I agree with you, I think their business is over.

The owner made bet on wrong horses-twice!!! Does he have a Mitsubishi dealership as well? That would be a perfect trifecta!!

wow. The situation in Canada appears to be quite different. For example, there are 5 or 6 Suzuki dealers in the greater Montreal region alone. You see SX4s and Grand Vitaras everywhere.

Well, remember, they're selling Suzukis. Those Yugo dealerships didn't last too long either!

Sadly, I have owned this SX4 crossover for three weeks now...the airbag service came on yesterday. I look forward to crappy service and a very long wait to get this tin can fixed here in Denver. I very much regret my purchase...I am already looking to get rid of it...if the airbag light will cooperate.
