Now touring the country is a revival of the musical "Fiddler on the Roof", a farewell for long-standing star Topol. With music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, the play is set in early 1900 Tsarist Russia. Wikipedia notes that the story "is based on Tevye and his Daughters (or Tevye the Milkman) and other tales by Sholem Aleichem. The story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives."
One of several famous musical numbers is "If I were a Rich Man." Well, if I were a rich man -- and at this point that means hitting the Powerball numbers (Oy Vey!) -- I would purchase a Nissan GT-R.
Sure I could buy a Murcielago, Spyker, or something. However, driving a vehicle like one of those projects the image of a schmuck. It's been noted here before that the R35 carries no such stigma.
And how practical are any of those? Anywhere you park an exotic car you're going to worry about a lot of things -- like door dings, negotiating driveway dips, getting keyed by some meshugana guy, or the the valet making off with your ride a la "Ferris Bueller".
You can use the GT-R as a daily driver. It's not a pain in the tuches like an exotic car.
Making a run down to the grocery store, Walmart, or the drive-thru at Taco Bell? It's no problem in the GT-R.
While the R35 is the easiest car to drive fast that I've ever been in due to the linear power, tremendous AWD grip, and excellent and incredibly easy-to-use dual-clutch transmission, comfortable touring is also a GT-R strong point, as I experienced in my mad weekend dash to Vegas a few weeks ago.
Say again? You won lotto and purchased which vehicle?

Some form of Aston Martin - they're simply rolling art.
This is of course assuming its an extremely lucrative lottery. If it was your run of the mill, couple of million I'd likely go for something cheaper like a GT-R, Cayman, etc.

+1 on the Aston Martin. AM was a distant memory till "Casino Royale" and "Quantum Of Solace" DBS brought them back from the forgotten. My DBS would be a dark green with tan interior. And it would be an auto. With 510 hp I'd like to keep BOTH hands on the steering wheel as much as possible.
In addition to the aforementioned issues of owning an exotic, you'll sudden become the love interest of every goldigger & Flavor/Rock of love reject in town. Whether that's good or bad depends on you....;-)
And being a former valet manager; I'd expect at least a $50 for those AM, Ferraris, Lambos, Bentleys, RR and all those other exotics. But realizing that the GT-R is a supercar for those less "privileged", I'd expect a mere $5 or $10 at the most.

I have to be honest, I'd still be worried about all those things if I was driving a GT-R. Maybe not quite to a lambo level of worry, granted.
Even with lottery bucks, I want service in my own town - no flatbed or car carrier for an oil change...
So right now it'd be Maserati's GranTurismo S.

Ferarri GTB/4 coupe, '70 Mustang Boss 429 and Mach 1, and for my daily driver Maserati Quattroport.

For me, there'd be something about spending six figures on a car that just doesn't jibe right. Past a certain point, how much do you _really_ gain in luxury/performance/etc? I think either this or a cts-v, depending on if I wanted to row my own gears and roast a few tires, while still having a nice daily driver.
besides, if you're really into spending that much money on cars and you just won the lottery, why do you need just one car? i could go for a new 750 for DD/travel luxury (while still having a crapload of power), and say an exige for fun days... and probably still spend less than an AM to boot :)

I wouldn't choose any performance vehicle as a daily driver. If your forced me to, I'd go with a Ford GT. Maybe a Jaguar XKR. The AM suggestions are good too. This Nissan, as cool as it is, is much further down on the list.

With a big lotto jackpot, I would buy: Veyron Pur Sang, Mclaren F1 LM, Ferrari P4/5, AM One-77, Reventon, Carrera GT, Phantom LWB, Maybach 62s, Bentley Continental Supersports. I guess it would have to be a pretty big jackpot :)
lazyhater says:

If money is no object, I much rather have a Bentley Continental Supersports, it provide the same speed as the GTR since they got the same power/weight ratio, the same 4WD traction although the Bentley's system is much less advance. The Supersports looks much more elegant and the interior is way more exquisite then the Nissan. The only thing the Supersports can't do is the ability to turn like a race car and provide super low lap times. But it is a street car anyway, the lap times is not important. The Bentley don't have the schmuck image either since it seems like everyone have one in Southern California, it looks like a Lexus to most people, few people care about it. The biggest problem most people have with the Supersports is the huge price tag, but if money is no object, then is not a problem.

The GTR is by far the coolest performance car for under $100k. But if money is not an issue, there are much cooler alternatives out there. I'll probably take a 997 Turbo over the GTR, even though the 997 is less advance. I am a huge Japanese car's fanboy because Japanese cars has the best value and I don't have money. But if I have money, I won't be driving any Asian cars.

I have to disagree. I drove a friend's GT-R for a couple hours on the few remaining roads in California that aren't riddled with potholes and have never experienced a car that rode so poorly. Every little bump or expansion joint sent a major jolt to the passenger compartment. I think it is an understandable tradeoff because I have never driven something that was so planted or gripped so hard, but it is hardly a comfortable daily driver. If I were to buy one it would definitely be a weekend car, if I needed a sports car to serve daily-driver duties I would get a Porsche 911 or Aston Martin without a second thought.

Well considering i dont normally play Mega Millons till it reaches 100 million or more (i have a lot of plans for the money), I would buy a GT-R first. Actually i'd buy 2 or 3. One is to remain stock and the others will be modified. You see everything else takes time to get. Sure I want a Ferrari and I want Aston Martin, but they both require build time. Thats if you want the true experience. Sure some places have them a limited number on hand but i want mine tailor made for me like their suppose to be. So you can find me at my local Nissan dealer that currently has 4 GT-R's on the lot waiting for me to win the Lotto!

e10rice, most exotic cars are available right now if you have the money. Availability is never an issue, the only issue for most people is money. Unless the car is not available yet like the AM One-77. Look in the Dupont Registry, every single cars are available in there in all color combo, waiting for a buyer. Especially in this economy.

Wow, I agreed with mercedesfan for once! The GTR is 100% not a comfortable daily driver, unless the driver is a 18~22 years old male that think a gokart with no suspension is comfortable. This is the reason I don't have a GTR today, since it can't be my daily driver and I have to put my money on my real daily driver first, which is a LS430.

If I won the lotto I'd buy something exotic... most likely a Porsche Carrera GT. I have easily one of the best fun daily drivers with the GTI and its far cheaper to daily drive than a GT-R. My nice car will remain nice and the miles will be low.

Quote from slhtonz-
"Past a certain point, how much do you _really_ gain in luxury/performance/etc?"
A person gains precious little in the real world. But past that certain point is brand cachet, prestige and whatever else that give the impression of success.
Exclusivity is the name of the game from that point on.

Great taste sgude! I agreed with all of your choices, I just don't understand why you would keep a 05' 325i if you got all these other cars, but hey, it is your choice! I won't look at a Nissan GTR either if I hit the lotto.
powell_jr says:

I understand sgude keeping his 325i. When you have a car you like you keep it. I would keep my 2007 Mazda 3 I would probably slap two turbohargers down low and add performance suspension and good tires. I would keep the wheels and everything else stock. It would be a fun little car to hunt for unsuspecting Camaro SSs in.
sgude says:

lazyhater, I'd keep my 325i because it is my first BMW (I'm nostalgic about that kind of stuff), and it a Bimmer as God intended: manual tranny, sport package, and the only frill is heated seats. Perfect! It would serve as my "stealth" daily driver when I don't want the attention the M3 would attract.
Maybe my 275 GTS would be fly yellow too, but nahhhh. Gotta have at least one red Ferrari.
