Yesterday I posted about our 2009 Hyundai Genesis' lack of rear trunk release, and several of you kind commenters came forth to set me straight.
This morning I asked IL news correspondent and quasi-independent-third-party Mike Lysaght to verify or strike-down my perceived stupidity.
Sheepishly, Lysaght returned from the garage with photographic proof confirming my mistake.
Turns out, there is a long touch-pad on the right side of the trunk.
In his report, Lysaght tried to spin it for my protection, saying it worked best when pressed in the exact middle. (Note the indentation in the center.)
I think he was just being nice because I'm his editor.

On models without the backup camera, the trunk release button is located right where the camera is located on this model. For a car that is supposedly "bland", "copy"...seems to be getting a lot of posts. Hmmm...

If I were asked to open the trunk on this car, I'd walk up and put my thumb right on that camera lense (it looks like a button).
I'll be curious to see if that happens here.

Does the trunk open all the way by itself, or just release and you have to lift it? It's still surprising how many luxury cars drop the ball there...

Next time: "RTFM!!!!"
Figured I'd get that out the way first.
And I bet that's what he wanted to scream at you as well.
But why in the world couldn't Hyundai make the trunk little more obvious? At least put some sort of symbol on the darn thing.....

I gave up too and assumed it didn't have one.

Is that the rubbery "membrane" button? If so, my Kia Soul has the exact same button inside a recessed handle to open the rear hatch. I guess if there wasn't a parts bin they couldn't keep costs down!

Kelly and Brian are left handed! Or... they had something heavy in the right hand and tried to find the latch with the left. Yeah, that's the ticket. :-)

A more astute statement has never been said..=)
I will concur with the RTFM statement, but I have been in numerous situations where I had to show - of all people - dealership techs & salespeople some features on a particular car. A recent example that comes to mind is the existence of a 150 Watt, 115V A/C electrical outlet in the Jetta Sportwagen TDI, nicely hidden behind a cover underneath the rear Air Conditioning vents.
