Probably should lump Yaris sales into that Scion figure as well.

canadia: That's a good point. I'd like to see the numbers after the Yaris is included.

While we're at it, it would be interesting to see a comparison of all cars in this class.

So how many small Toyota models does it take to catch the Fit?

This isn't a surprise. Scion abandoned it's customer base, by producing larger cars (hmmm, sounds like Saturn).

Hmm.. This may be a dumb question, but could anyone tell me where I can find car sales figures by make and model like those in this post?

I can't find them...
Thanks

Yaris YTD 2009 Sales - 38,598

That's more than the Fit, but I wonder what the break down between sedan and hatch is.

Does the Fit number include both 2008 and 2009 models? The 2009 Fit has only been available since August 2009.

Too bad its only July 2009...

A bit off topic, where are the Does it "Fit" posts? That was a fun topic.

Scion died with the uber cheesy commercial where all the scion owners drove out to the desert to have a rave together.

Scion: Hey guys, we have an extremely fuel efficient, quirky vehicle that is popular among young adults. How about we make it much bigger, put a gas sucking 2.4L motor in it, and make it uglier? Sounds good!

dragonflight says:

I just don't understand why Toyota keeps bumping the displacement of their 4cyls. They've gotten to the point where their 4cyl (2.7l) is the same size as my V6, and they've lost the efficiency of motors like the 1.8 because they've simply bored it out so much. It's the same with the constant evolution from 3.0 to 3.3 to 3.5- rather than boring it out, could you actually _engineer_ a better output rather than just being lazy, Toyota?

Honda is guilty of this too, of course.

that 2.7L I4 gets 29 mpg in the Venza, yet gives the power hungry american 182 hp and 182 lb-ft of torque. seems like bigger fours are a good idea...

Does the fit really directly compete with the xB?

I thought the xB competed more with the likes of the Soul, Cube and Element. Whereas the Fit would compete with Yaris, etc.

I'm basing this comment just on the fact that the xB seems much larger?

dragonflight says:

@creeper have any longterm/non-EPA tests of it confirmed that MPG? It seems like many of the engines are designed solely for EPA numbers

stephen987 says:

Soul and Cube are MUCH smaller than Element--actually Fit-sized. xB is either (a) noncommittal, or (b) just right, depending on your attitude.

The Venza's engine is so good, I wonder why they haven't put it in the xB--I think it would have better performance AND better fuel economy. Car and Driver got 26 in mixed driving in the 3800-lb Venza.

My Soul is definitely larger then a Fit. I cannot comment on the Fit.
