2009 BMW 750i: What is that smell?

09.bmw.750i.seatclimate.555.jpg

I turned on the seat heaters in our BMW 750i last night. Then I turned on the seat coolers at the same time. Then it smelled funny so I turned them both off.

Why did it let me do that?

Why would you do that? Was it a chilly So Cal night?

Maybe it was the seat fan sucking the smell of your warm backside into the leather seats and out back into the cabin?

"Why did it let me do that?"

Computers can't be expected to block you from every dumb move.

Joe, that was disgusting. Thank you so much :p

It’s not a "cooler" so much as it’s normal fan. So it theoretically can enhance the amount of heat felt by applying moving the hot air.

You're all wrong. It's the smell of brutal and unmitigated luxury.

Tech in principle is AMAZING. In practice, you get IDrive.

Don't fart with the seat heater on!

Both Mercedes and Volvo allow this too. Ostensibly it's to allow you to warm up from the seat heater and dry off from the moving air. This would be useful if one was, say, wet and cold in the winter. Not useful in SoCal where it never rains, but nice everywhere else.

I've never noticed a bad smell from any of mine though...

"cheslin" is 100% correct. It is supposed to allow you to do both at the same time.
