2009 BMW 750i: Seat Calibration

750 seat calibration 800.jpg

Yes, seat calibration. It's what our longterm 2009 BMW 750i requested upon shutdown yesterday with a ding and this message. Apparently HAL lost track of where in its range of travel the driver's seat was.

I suppose this is used to ensure the seat memory functions are accurate, but they seemed to work normally.

I obeyed the electronic overlord's prescribed instructions, though, and motored the seat all the way forward and then back to my normal driving position. This seemed to please the machine.

How ridiculous...but that tends to be the way that all the luxuries and conveniences work, they end up asking more from the end user than the so-called old-fashioned way that they replace.

There are just too many things tied into this car through the computer,It will be a nightmare to repair once out of warranty.

I love this car, as I do most BMWs, but owning one of these used without a warranty is going to cost some $$$$$$.

It doesn't say which seat needs calibrating.

Now that is something I have never heard of before. Glad it was an easy fix. For now.

I never understood why people are always scared about the computers failing out of warranty. It's probably one of the most reliable things on the car since they're solid state and if it does i'm sure that buying a new one costs less than replacing most mechanical parts. Not saying this car won't be $$ to repair-- but that's not cause of computers.
