2009 Audi S5: Emotional

car-of-the-week-banner2.jpg audi-s5-cow-555.jpg

I once heard an Audi representative say that its odd numbered models are emotional.

Oddly enough, so are automotive journalists.

We get excited over the hum of a V8 engine, and just the mere mention of pounds-feet of torque is enough to get us all jittery.

Add style to that mix in the form of Brilliant Red paint and you've got yourself a car of the week.

I think thats one of the A5's best angles, it looks really good. But am I in the minority if I say that the back end just doesnt look right?

This car is so boring I keep forgetting it's in your long-term fleet.

Thanks to Audi's horrible resale value, the S5 can be bought in the high 30's now. Not a bad deal IMO.

Odd numbers = emotional?

The A3 does not strike me as such.

Yo man your ride would look sweet if you add 2 hood scoops like a Pontiac, and give it some hood vents like a DBS! And then add some side ridges like a Pontiac so it's like all hot and stuff! And get some 24"!

It looks like Godzilla accidentally stepped on an A4.

I fear criticizing the looks of the Audi for fear of being torn to shreds by Audi fan boys but I am going to do it anyways. I am not a fan of Audi's decidedly clean but very boring styling. When I look at one I think yes that is an unoffensive looking car in much the same way that a Toyota is unoffensive. It just stirs no emotion in me and in the end emotion is what makes me buy a car.

Sounds like you could get a job at Gubmint Motors any time you want!!!

srtracing, have you seen the A5/S5 in person? I'll preface by saying I'm not a big fan of this car in general, but I have yet to see a picture that even comes close to doing it justice -- it's a terrifically beautiful car in person.

I'm just glad that one company has resisted the Bangle-ization that has swept from BMW to Japan. I've always preferred cars with clean styling, without all the bumps, angles, and "surface excitement" (to use the old Japanese styling term). I had an Audi years ago, and it was such a bad experience that I can't see ever buying another one. But, they do make beautiful cars.

Interesting and attractive...yes. However, emotional is a bit of a stretch.

A Maserati Granturismo is emotional, a Ferarri F430 is emotional. That said, the Italians pretty much are the kings of emotional design.

@esoterica
Living in Southern Orange County where high school kids first cars are Audis now instead of BMWs yes indeed I have seen many A5s and S5s. I have even driven a S5, nice car. I just don't feel anything when driving it and that's what's important to me.
