2008 Smart Fortwo: Two.

Yes, that's the number of speakers we got with our $15,305. But not only did we get a measly two speakers, we also got a craptastic head unit to boot. Now, I'm not much of an audiophile but this stereo sucks. How much does it suck you ask? Well, think of a late 80's Nissan Hardbody. Now imagine that Nissan with one stock speaker and one speaker that you were forced to pick up from the local Kragen (making a mess of the wiring job while you hastily installed it in the parking lot) because your buddy spilled a large horchata into the other one. The Nissan's stereo sounded better.

On a side note, I caught and passed two people on a freeway on-ramp in our little Smart. Sad.

We know the Smart's radio sucks. But it's better than the radio you get in a golf cart.

"...because your buddy spilled a large horchata into the other one."

LOL! Horchata FTW!

My family actually had a 1991 Nissan Hardbody pickup when I was growing up. The sound really was terrible. It also had only two speakers, and they had no bass whatsoever. I think it did have a better head unit than the Smart, though.

I was on THREE times tonight seeing if any new posts were up and I didn't notice this one until NOW! You're right, no one cares about the Smart and that's why it was never Car of the Week.

Well, for all the whining about Edmunds picking too many high-end cars to blog, the low-end stuff tends to be pretty much ignored. Add in the Smart's unpopularity with readers and staff and there you have it.

The Smart car seems like a dumb car choice.

This headunit looks better then the one in my gf's 2006 smart (we got them before you here in Canada). It is awful.

Truly sad. It amazes me how many Angelinos think it's a good idea to merge onto a freeway at 35MPH when traffic is moving at 70MPH...

I would never buy this car.

Are you sure the people you "caught up to and passed" weren't on bicycles or happened to be walking up the on-ramp ? : )
