2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR Gets Sparkle Paws

PawStickers 006blog.jpg

"Why?" You ask, does the Evo need these oh-so-cute stickers? Well, ever since Ed.-in-Chief Oldham removed the wing, and Riswick found a few uses for the forlorn appendage, the resulting orifices have bothered me.

While they wouldn't necessarily cause any damage by letting water through because they line up neatly with the trunk's rain gutter, they might start to rust by themselves. The third one with the plastic plug lines up with the L-bracket below.

At least that's what I told myself as I was buying kid's stickers at Target.

So here are the offending holes...

...and once again closer...

And here's how they look now.

and yet again, closer...

JayKav says there's probably a vendor in a shopping-mall kiosk that'll sell me a sheet of metallic-blue vinyl stickers, but I think this is a good enough cover up for now. Who knows? This could turn into "The quest for the most appropriate sticker." Stick around to find out. Sorry.

*SIGH*

How about a suspension walkaround for the EVO? Pretty sparkly paw stickers please?

Gosh, that is really quite nice looking paint. I have to admit.

I have spoiler plugs for my SRT-4, but am looking at some vinyl stickers.

If I was Edmunds, I'd do what Sport Compact Car magazine did a while back with their project STi--find someone with a wingless Lancer in your color and switch it out. Just remember to switch out the locks in the trunk...

I'd do the same thing if I could find a yellow Neon without a spoiler in Austin who'd be willing to do the same thing.

Then you can really follow the SCC path and paint the Lancer flat black in Karl Brauer's garage....

-OR-

You could just put the wing back on?

+1 breif

I'm still trying to grasp how this isn't like a Civic owner putting fake BMW Z3 vents on the front fenders. Sure, you're _removing_ the wing in this case, but it is a functional aero appendage (see links from Mitsubishi technical papers posted by dougtheengineer in previous thread), and you aren't left with 6 unsightly holes in the trunk covered by sparkle paw stickers.

I think that removing functional performance devices from your car, leaving a bunch of holes in in and slapping on stickers qualifies as ricer sheik. Either put the wing back on, get a different trunk lid, or get this one smoothed and painted.

Of course you folks could remove the two black rectangular inserts, then put your appropriate tape logos or whatever over the holes.

At least these temp covers aren't Princess stickers!
(for that matter, does an Evo Princess exist? :-) )

If you're going to leave the wing off (and I would), any good body shop can make those holes disappear for a reasonable price.

Very nice pics. In detail you are sharing. This is good. But i prefer the new 2009 Mitsubishi lancer. This is one of the smallest sedan car and having this car is an indication of high status. It is very well designed car, very comfortable as interiors are quiet spacious. According to price, it gives good performance. "I think that removing functional performance devices from your car, leaving a bunch of holes in in and slapping on stickers qualifies as ricer sheik."

Agreed 100%. If the 'project' is to get this vehicle as track-ready and fast as possible, I don't understand how you can consider removing the spoiler. I would have thought that performance >> appearance.

Hahah, the holes in the trunk lid would drive me crazy too. I second the request for a GSR suspension walk around.

I saw this car the other week near CSULB on 7th St.......some older gentleman drinking his Starbucks while driving and not paying attention to my staring at the car........car sounded sick and the wheels are hot!

When is this thing going to start taking stabs at godzilla?

A good body shop is about $1200 to cover up the holes with a respray of the trunk and rear fenders. I looked into it.

The stickers, plugs and any other cheap option you might find is way ghetto.

Put the wing back on. It was a good idea at the time and you get props for trying it out...but put the wing back on.

The only potential alternative is the 2010 Evo X with the wing delete option. The factory trunk lid is around $700. You might be able to get a prepainted 2010 trunk lid next year for near that price.

Jason/Edmunds:

Off topic a bit, but what are the plans "powerwise" to get this Evo closer to your bogey GT-R? Currently, your Evo runs a 12.3 1/4 mile (with cams, tune, intake, exhaust, wheels) so it's getting maxed out already with all the bolt ons/cams. Are you going to do a "drop-in replacement turbo" like the new Garrett 35, or FP Red or Blouch Dominator turbo, the one's that are pushing the Evo into the 10.79 1/4 mile range? Just curious on the power issue.
