2009 Nissan GT-R: Which Exotic Is the Most Exotic?

nissan_gt-r_meets_lambo.jpg

After a weekend of running pointless errands and squirting through freeway traffic, our long-term 2009 Nissan GT-R found a friend at a local city park on Sunday evening.

I note (with alarm) the near-identical headlights. Separated at birth?

Wow. I am not a Gallardo fan, or a Lamborghini fan for that matter, but this is one sexy Gallardo. The color white can either make or break a car.

Obviosly, it made the Gallardo.

parking space FAIL. lol.

audisport says:

More exotic? Umm, probably the Lambo.. Duh. It looks badass in either the orange or the ice blue colors.

If by "near-identical" you mean they both have headlights, then yes, stephen, separated at birth.

@audisport: LOL

I saw a Ferrari in the wild in a beautiful dark silver color over the weekend. While the car looked fantastic in that color, I was not aware it was even a possibility. I mean it was definitely nowhere near as ostentatious as an exotic should be.

A Lambo will always be an object of desire and something to yearn for ... the Nissan, no matter how quick and techno-geeked out, is just an Datsun.

The GT-R looks gargantuan next to the Gallardo.

I've seen more Gallardo Spyders in Austin than GT-Rs, to be honest. But I still think they're more exotic.

The white looks great, but I prefer the matte white that's available:

I'd say the most exotic vehicle, and one I have yet to see, Bugatti Veyron.

Of these two the Lambo would definitely be more exotic. It just has a pedigree the Nissan can't touch at this point.

Seen a couple bugattis on the road. Theres usually one at cars and coffee.

Has Insideline ever thought about taking a good amount of their feet to cars and coffee in Irvine?

ocramida says:

Ahh, I have to agree parking space fail. Did you park that close to the Lambo to compose the photo? Or are you looking to cover any door dings that the GT-R's immense doors would inflict on the Lambos sculpted skin?

altimadude00 says:

The GT-R is in a league with Corvettes and Supras in terms of "exotic" status. It's just not exotic enough.

Lambo wins for exotic-ness.

ctpax says:

notice the lambo has more clearance than the nissan.

huyracing says:

the gallardo has its front end lifted... a nice option to help clear driveways and speed bumps.

audisport says:

Last winter in Chicago I saw a Carrera GT parked outside of a restaurant and there was a goodd two inches of snow on the ground. Random exotic car headshake moment.

@slickersdrip: That matte white does look awesome.

Lambo: Guy in his 60's
Nissan: Gen Y

I think the Nissan is a work of engineering art, the Lambo is a really expensive toupee

firstwagon says:

10,20,30, etc years from now the Lambo will always be an exotic.

10 years from now the GT-R will be another Dodge Stealth. A cheap to buy, expensive to keep running, very fast Japanese car.

Probably more like an Acura NSX

There are two white cars blocking my view of a sweet beige Caddy SRV.

"10 years from now the GT-R will be another Dodge Stealth. A cheap to buy, expensive to keep running, very fast Japanese car."

Couldn't have said that better myself.

huyracing says:

Kinda hard to say it'll end up like past Japanese Supercars because everyone is talking about scaling back performance. The current trend is GREEN GREEN GREEN, so this might be the pinnacle of performance right now.

Cars like the Dodge Stealth perform decently today, but is ultimately outclassed by modern cars and is a fortune to keep running well. If 11 second 1/4 mile accords aren't the norm in 10 years, then I'm sure the GTR will still be special.

Otherwise, it has very little to hang onto... it doesn't have the pedigree of an old Ferrari and it doesn't have the looks of the NSX... it does have the special place of being the best Nissan has ever produced, but that only leaves it in the same company as the 300ZX TT and that only has a cult following at best.

e10rice says:

02:22 PM, 06/15/09

The lambo's more exotic because thats all they produce. Oh can you get a family sedan lambo, or a SUV lambo, or how about a truck Lambo. Their not like nissan that produces different kinds of cars. But i must say i've seen more lambos on the street than GT-R's so personally its not that much more exotic! Hell i've seen more of the new SS Camaro's on the street then GT-R's. all this hate on Jap supercars, i still get excited when i see a NSX.

I love parking right next to the cars people park in two spaces. You should have put it about 6 inches from their driver's side door.

gtrb3nz says:

03:13 PM, 06/15/09

idk, i dont like the gallardo for some reason, the front isnt wat i like in a lambo at all. Ill stick with Ferrari.

anyway, the GTR may not be as exotic but it will kill that lambo around a track

mikeolan says:

03:17 PM, 06/15/09

Well, unlike the Dodge Stealth, this car has a pretty fierce cult following and some serious name recognition, although it enjoys a lower profile. I think anyone under 35 at this point probably would take the GT-R over the Lambo.

It can be said that the Lambo is more exclusive because of its badge, but really the only people who buy cars like that are the people who buy supercars to compensate for their shortcomings (which granted, there are a lot of.) The Ford GT lacked a snob badge and is held in high regard.

Of course, at the end of the day, the Lambo is really just VWAG engineering, so somewhere between a Yugo and a Kia.

zacbol says:

03:35 PM, 06/15/09

Um...anyone under 35 would take a GTR? Huh? This is the funniest thing I've read on here for a long time.

Count me in the minority then.

merkava5 says:

03:52 PM, 06/15/09

Under 35 here as well, and I'm not sure I'm with you on this one, mikeolan.

For me (and many others, I assume) there's just not a reasonable justification for a car like the GTR, which is all about the numbers it produces. Yes, it's a performance bargain. Yes, it is surely faster in every respect than the Gallardo, but on public roads, who needs that extra few tenths of a second?

At the end of the day I'd rather be driving something that makes me grin like an idiot. I'll take the mid-engine, V10, Italian drop-top :)

altimadude00 says:

04:09 PM, 06/15/09

I'd rather have a car that has an actual name than just a bunch of letters. GT-R just doesn't have the wow-factor that Gallardo has.

The Italian also makes a better sound to my ears than the Nissan.

And Desmolicious...lol...you and your beige caddies.

huyracing says:

04:24 PM, 06/15/09

lol... i know plenty of guys with Ferrari's or Lamborghini's or both and they also have a GTR, but to say the GTR is better??? I DONT THINK SO!

e10rice says:

06:57 PM, 06/15/09

Im with you mikeolan on taking the GT-R, just not on the 35 and under part. The Lambo is just to flashy and to many D-bags own them. You wont be seeing any GT-R's on Unique Autosports, or West Coast customs.

achenator says:

09:55 AM, 06/17/09

Whats your point? too many D-bags own BMWs and Porsches and Saturns and pick up trucks.
