Long-Term Road Tests

Daily updates on our fleet of cars and trucks

2009 Nissan 370Z and 2009 Nissan GT-R: IL Readers' Most Wanted

gtr-370z-555-2.jpg

We just published the results of our 2009 Inside Line Readers Most Wanted Awards and the 2009 Nissan 370Z and 2009 Nissan GT-R cleaned up, winning two categories each. That means these two cars took four of the 15 awards.

The BMW 128i also grabbed a spot on the list, which essentially means three cars in our long-term fleet are favorites of our readers. Plus, several recent long-term blog alums took honors. Readers also voted big time for the Honda Accord, BMW X5, Toyota Tundra, Ford Mustang and BMW 3-Series.

You know, sometimes we take flack for this blog not having cars our readers are interested in. Um, hello.

THe only cars in your fleet that I could give a rat's @$$ about are the:

FX50, Both Lancer's

Also, the one's you used to have were the:

Impreza, and Ferrari.

Everything else I enjoy reading about.

P.S. I'm still waiting on that XC60

"You know, sometimes we take flack for this blog not having cars our readers are interested in. Um, hello. "

I think there is a difference between 'most wanted' and practical, usable information for making a car purchase. Obviously if you put at Aston Martin in a category, I'm going to say that I "desire/want" it...but that doesn't mean I'm more interested in it then I am in a subcompact.

I agree with dougtheeng... I may want a BMW or a 370z but what can I afford or live with on a daily basis for many years to come. Completely different.

You sometimes wonder, what came first: The chicken or the egg?

In this blog's defense, if it were loaded more with the 'practical' vehicles and with less of the 'interesting and desirable' ones, I probably wouldn't bother reading it.

I drive a practical car - and practical cars are practically all the same. I love reading a blog that is loaded with 'I want one' type of cars.

I would actually like to see a 128i in your long-term fleet. I still want to know, on a long term basis, if a decked-out Cooper S is a better BMW for your money than a base 128i. Obviously they are very different cars, but I am still curious.

firstwagon says:

Interesting they were so popular but I almost never see either one.

I have only seen one GT-R and a couple of 370Zs.

I don't want to take too much credit away from these cars, but see my post in Straightline about this so called survey.

Well, some people complain that Top Gear doesn't spend enough time talking about practical cars, either. But who wants to see a Nissan Sentra race the bullet train across Japan?

I like reading about interesting cars, but not something that's completely unattainable. Keep writing about Jeeps, WRXes, G8 GTs, Evos, and Flexes, but I don't care about Camrys or even Enzos (we all know the former is an appliance and the latter is something nobody here will ever drive).

So are you saying that IL is now at the same level as Top Gear? Which is pure automotive COMEDY/ENTERTAINMENT and nothing more...

I don't know about you about I come here for real informations on cars that I might be purchasing in the future. So yes, fill the LT fleet with Corolla/Sentra/Civic will be boring but when half the fleet is filled with 2-door coupes (let me count them: S5, GT-R, 370Z, 135i, Challenger) and duplicate models (Jettas and Evos...) really doesn't help the reader at all.

I don't think IL is at the Top Gear level yet but the recent trend here in the LT blog is alarming.

Well, you have a 135, and it seems the readers prefer something else in the 135 price bracket. For "under $30K" they might vote for the cheapest BMW, but maybe for $40K there are nicer, roomier cars.

That's funny - I think I only voted for ONE of the winners: the Mustang. I may have voted the GT-R and 370Z for something, but I can't remember.

I guess that means I'm not like most IL readers, which means I'm not an import fan-boy.

I opted out of even completing the survey since one was *forced* to pick from pre-selected options. Of any of the 'Car of the Year' choices, as I recall, I probably would've gone with the GTR. But then, it wouldn't have been my overall choice...because you guys didn't give the option for my choice and didn't allow write-ins. If you tell people to choose their favorte soft drink and the choices are 'Seven Up' and 'Dr. Pepper', guess what, either Dr. Pepper or Seven Up will win. Shocking, isn't it? I aborted the survey after the third question where I couldn't choose what I wanted to.

huyracing says:

the survey is weird... its like, "what is your favorite all time car?" and your choices range ford pinto to bugatti veyron. even if you have a ferrari wedged in the middle somewhere, more people would likely choose the million dollar car.

Wow - I guess I speak for a lot of the other voters as 5 of my picks won! :P

I'm glad that Inside Line has so many fun cars. I wouldn't visit this site at all if they only had boring econoboxes.

brn says:

Ditto on what zacbol said. I stopped the survey part way through to for the same reasons.

Good for Nissan I suppose. I really like the new Maxima too.

I like that IL has all the cars I will never be able to buy, like the GTR, the R8, the M3. I wouldn't be here if they were testing Camry's, Minivans and pick-ups!

majin_ssj_eric says:

Yeah I'd like to see a Maxima in the long term fleet myself...

I think we've had enough Nissans and BMWs for now.

altimadude00 says:

...and Mitsubishi's.

ace47 says:

Yet another win for the GT-R. Given the amount of bitching about that car on this site though, I thought some other car would win.

The funniest win would have to be the GT-R scooping the World Performance Car of the year beating the ZR1 and the Porche 911. It was even funnier when the GT-R had a higher resale value than Porche.
