In the spirit of Blendtec's internet sensation "Will it Blend?", we introduce "Will it Fit?", featuring our long-term Honda Fit (how fitting). None of my personal vehicles are capable of transporting a 15.5 gallon beverage container (also known as a half barrel/full keg), so I gave it a shot in our Fit...
The short answer is an emphatic "Yes!" But I was actually surprised how easily an empty keg of Boddingtons fits. So easily in fact, that I may be able to fit two in the hatch. But an empty keg only weighs 30 pounds, making it fairly effortless to hurl it into the trunk. I would suspect that a 170 lb. full keg would be a job for two people and cause quite a bit of wear and tear to the interior trim during loading, despite the relatively low liftover height. And just so you know, the keg only takes up 2.75 cubic feet of the Fit's 20.6 cubes.
So there you have it. What do you think we should try to fit next? (I think if we had our Smart ForTwo "cubed" at a wrecking yard, it'd fit in the Fit.)

How many slobbering labs can it fit? A side of beef? How about the tire test, a la Flex?

An entire BBQ for 30 people. Food, charcoal, 2 grills, pop, 2 kegs, 2 shells, 2 taps, 80 lbs of ice, kiddy pool (inflatable or hard shell kind), grill tools, plates, chips....so on and so forth.

I like the idea of the tire test too. Dig up a dozen tires or whatever it was you got in the Flex and see if they will Fit in the little Fit.
You could make it a standard test for any vehicle that claims to be practical. How many tires will it hold?

I like this idea. I'll see what I can manage later this week...

I think you should employ the Car and Driver long-neck beer bottle case test.
How many cases of your favorite micro-brew can you get in the back?

Who was that guy who kept asking how much manure you can fit in XXXX car? I don't miss him, but he'd love this topic. :)

Boddingtons... one of my all time favorites! Pouring & watching the head rise is a work of art. Drinking it even better. Glad to read you emptied that keg!

Hijack: I was recently in Japan and was surprised to see the Fit all over the place... with the Fit name. I thought it was the Jazz in Japan. Also, almost all the JDM Fits look like the US base model, no rocker panels or spoilers. Even the RS model is more subdued than the US Sport version. Back to the blog...

I love how the stripe on the keg matches the Fit. And nice choice w/ the boddingtons! I actually just picked up a 1/6brl of boulder's "mojo risin" this past Saturday (I can manage those lil guys just fine on my own - a full 1/2brl is more of a challenge).
Cheers!

Not sure it could handle the weight

I think you should do wheels and tires.....not just tires.
And then track test it for braking and acceleration performance (with the tires/wheels safely strapped down)
Just cause you CAN fit it doesn't mean you should :)
Joe
P.s. Both my 2006 Honda Civic SI and my 2008 Subaru Legacy GT can fit 4 wheels/tires (mounted) inside without having to resort to gymnastics or loading the front seat. I want to see the Fit load up 8 wheels/tires :)

heh, I love my Fit and I love Boddington's! but yeah, I think a long neck case test would be a good one.

I think you should try to fit a weekend's worth of camping gear inside the fit:
Tent
Stove
Clothes
Tarps
Chairs
Lantern
etc.

How about a basketball goal, pre-assembly. Someone told me that a friend of theirs was offered a good deal on a washer and dryer and was able to fit both inside. Would be worth a shot.

1 keg? 2 kegs? That's nothing...
When I owned my '84 Honda Civic Wagon, I had to bring the beer over to a company event. Ended up getting SIX full kegs inside that car. Granted it drove looooooow, but it got there in one piece. Try that with a Fit.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Fit will easily hold more of anything than your Civic Wagon. It also has such flexible seat configurability.
90.8 cu ft for passengers
20.6 cu ft for cargo
57.3 cu ft with seat folded down
111.4 cu ft interior space
Compare away!

In all fairness the Fit is quite a bit bigger then the 84 Civic wagon.

I recently brought eight 255/40 17 inch tires for me Evo VIII (four mounted on rims, four new not mounted) to my local tire shop in my 2009 Fit :D. All I had to do was lay down the seats in the rear and they all fit with a decent amount of room to spare. So for eight tires fairly decent sized tires... "will it Fit", yes!

Nice photo of the logo, by the way, Mark. Cool how you got the greenery reflected in the Fit chrome logo. Back to the Boddingtons...
