2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo GSR: How It's Like a Motorcycle

mitsugsr 012.jpg

How does our 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo GSR remind me of a motorcycle?

-- Its exhaust note can set off car alarms.
-- It idles like one. Although it seems more pronounced now since that video was taken.
-- It corners like it's on rails.
-- It can squirt around traffic, minus the lane-splitting.
-- Its upshifts rumble like a bike's.
-- It stalls if you don't warm it up in the morning and you have to give it some gas while turning the key.* (FYI, I called J to the K about it this morning and he said that maybe "the blah blah blah" needs to be replaced. I couldn't hear him over the idling car. In any case, he'll address it.)

* I know this isn't motorcycle-specific and cars do this, too, but since I have motorcycle on the brain, that's what it reminds me of.

'Corners like it's on rails...except I don't have to lean over sideways to do it...'

Major difference. Cars lean the wrong way in corners...
Caroline, the stalling comment is kinda funny. My Duc does that if I don't let it 'catch' for a few moments, but my Harley starts and idles perfectly ready to be ridden away almost immediately like all modern Harleys with FI.

I like it when Japanese sport-compacts are executed like this Evo. Stylish but subtle rims, suspension upgrade and the usual performance modifications keep it clean and simple. No "rice" allowed!

desmo,
Gotta like Harley's FI -- I don't think the crankshaft on mine makes two revolutions before the engine fires and settles into a smooth idle.

HA4, agreed, there is a really cool way to upgrade any type of sport compact, Japanese or otherwise, but sadly the Fast-and-Furious wannabe crowd ruins the image for everyone.

Stovt, I specifically singled out Japanese sport compacts because of the unique "JDM" styling themes where function and simplicity win over pure style. Of course that theme could be applied to any sport compact regardless of origin although it wouldnt be authentic JDM.

As for the Fast and Furious crowd, yes they ruined it for all of us. I wish there was a movie that existed that was more relaity based on how true sport compact enthusiasts modify and compete as there are some exceptional cars out there.

p.s. Caroline, are you a motorcyclist?

I've read from a lot of Evo X owners that the paint chips off very easily. Caroline, do the long-term GSR and MR have any paint chipping damage to them? Thanks.

Desmo,
I just got my M1 license! So now am in the market for a bike, preferably a beater so I won't feel bad taking a spill, which I know will happen in the first year.

Jo151,
I'll look into it and report back.
