Okay, so the 128i ragtop in our Edmunds.com Convertible Comparison Test technically represents year two of the 1, being a 2009 model and all. But it is the 135i's little brother, and it does take on a 2009 Mini Cooper S Convertible in the aforesaid top-down smackdown. Give it a read, and check out the full track numbers over at Straightline, and tell us what you think.

What is the point of this post? Did the comparison test not meat its reading quota or something?

Yeah...
How about do a test that could actually help me shop for a car like what the topless 135 is like and if the turbo motor is worth the price premium if it were your money.

128 is just a better car than the mini.
Personally, as the owner of a 335, I'd direct most everyone to get a 128/328. The the twin turbo motor is nice but it adds weight, adds maintenance and really it robs the car of some fun - you never need to change out of say 6th gear going 55+. It just pulls. Boring. The 3.0 in the 128 is a free-revving, far more involving engine.

I haven't driven a 1 series yet but even if it drives as well as the 3 series, I would still choose the Mini over the 1 series.
The Mini is just such a joy to drive. I love the light nimble "go kart" feel much more then the serious mature feel of the BMW.
That and I just can't warm up to the homely awkward looks of the 1 series.

"Year One of the 1"
Is that supposed to be for an ego trip or something? Oooh I have something special! It even says so!
No wonder BMW drivers think the world/road belongs to them.
Same goes for the plate in the G8.

It doesn't?
