2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI: Seat Adjustment

car-of-the-week-banner2.jpg vw-jetta-tdi-seat-555.jpg

Our 2009 VW Jetta TDI has a combination of manual and power-adjustable driver seat controls.

To move forward or back, there is a handle underneath the front cushion. To move up and down, there is a handle on the side that you can pump. You get a power-operated button to adjust the backrest. Interesting way to give you lots of control without adding much to the price.

ford-focus-seat-2-250.jpg The driver seat in our Ford Focus long-termer also has a pump-type handle to move the seat higher. It feels rather flimsy though. Whenever I use it, I'm always afraid it is going to snap off. It hasn't, so maybe it's just me. The handle in the Jetta, although smaller, feels much more substantial.

The electric and manual maashup shown here doesn't bother me that bad. What I hate is the face that the slider is operated via your right hand (under your knee), while these are on the left side.

What has caused all the scratches on the front corner of the Jetta seat? Looking for a Ford-style pumper handle?

The power adjustment back is handy. Not only is it easier to adjust, but you don't have to squeeze your hand down to the bottom of the seat to toggle it.

altimadude00: My guess is that the scratches are from peoples' heels hitting the trim when getting into the car.

Scratches on the front left corner of the seat. My Mrs. drops her purse there when someone is in the passenger's seat. Either this or the seat is moved up to the top and driver has high heels is my guess. I've rode in a couple of Jetta's last year and the seats are okay comfortable.

Maybe I'm long legged (and don't wear heels), but my shoes don't come anywhere near the seat in my car. Then again, it's pushed back all the way.
