2009 Suzuki SX4: Crash Test Videos

Obviously this is not our long-term Suzuki SX4, but it seemed relevant. I also think it was good that is was rated good.

HA!! In the first video the dummy's head is actually outside the car window. Aside from that, not to shabby.

Please keep your arms and legs...and head(!) inside the vehicle at all times.

This is why the side curtain airbags should inflate in a frontal collision, to protect the head from hitting the B pillar on rebound. I've seen side curtains inflate on frontal impacts for crash tests of Nissans.

One can always get a Subaru Impreza!

NHTSA:
Highest rating in front driver, front passenger and side driver crash tests (five out of five stars)

IIHS: 2008 IIHS Top Safety Pick

The Impreza earned top ratings in all three of the Institute's crash tests - offset frontal as well as side and rear impact - and it was the only small car to get a Top Safety Pick, plus it offers electronic stability control.

If you don't need all-wheel drive, the Civic is a good, safe choice. The only disadvantage with it is that ESC isn't available on all models, yet.

But Subytrojan, haven't you heard? The IIHS has negated all of their previous tests, and they now say that anyone who cares about safety should only be driving large vehicles. Because a large vehicle will never be in a collision with a *larger* vehicle.

(Alas, even my attempt at sarcasm is only a minor exaggeration of what the IIHS actually reported...)

You have to admire the IIHS for thinking ahead though. They know over the next few years the number of compact and subcompact cars on the road is going to increase dramatically.

By staging all those "tests", they've laid the ground work for justifying much higher insurance rates on small cars.
