A speed warning chime is just dumb. A speed warning chime you can set at 150 mph? Well, that's just cool.
Thing is, I'm pretty sure our A4 Avant 2.0T couldn't reach a buck fifty if it were driven by Helio Castroneves off the top of the Empire State Building. I haven't driven the car faster than 110 mph, but I'd bet this is a 135 mph car, tops. And that's downhill with a tailwind. Yeah, I know it has a 180 mph speedometer, but that's just fantasy.
Anybody out there know what this car's top speed is? If not, I may just have to find out for myself the fun way.

Funny, my Google search came up with 149mph.

Sounds like it's time for a professional driver to hit the Edmunds "closed test course"

Maybe for the V6. I got that from audiusa.com.

Bet you it will go 155. But where are you going to try it??

I'd bet the speed limiter is set to 130 on US models for liability/tire reasons. In Germany the 2.0T will probably do 150ish, and the 3.2 will easily peg 155.

According to www.audi.de, the 2.0 T Avant will do 232 Km/h with the automatic. 232/1.609344 = 144.16 mph.

My Audi brochure says 146 mph. I'd say it's not such a stretch since at 110, it's still climbing pretty strongly. This car has a very long sixth gear (at least with the automatic).

I've never heard of a speed warning in a car before...oh the crazy things you can get nowadays.

why were you going 110?

Audi has been offering a speed warning for at least over a decade now; my '98 A6 came equipped. It was nice when my cruise control module failed... I'd set the thing to beep at me if I hit 78+ mph.

I drove from the D to Chicago over the weekend and I set my speed warning for 90mph. I use cruise most of the time but when people are driving 65 in the fast lane it gets annoying. Anywho, the speed warning is actually very helpful. If the warning didint chime I would probably have been pushing 100mph easily and there were plenty of Michigan State Police out. By the way, I averaged about 28mpg, which isnt bad considering I was hauling butt.

my Turbo solstice gxp does 148 and thats restricted by physics. I dont think a car with 60 less hp and 60lb feet of torque, 700 more pounds and a worse Cd. could touch 130.

The A4 Avant goes well over 130. The german Audi website has a top speed for this model of 144 MPH. Gearing also comes into play when it comes to top speed. What's the Cd of the Solstice gxp?

My 1983 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe had only 145 horsepower, but it topped out at 135 MPH. By 1987, an intercooler bumped horsepower up to 190, and the top speed went up to 143 MPH. That's only 5 less MPH than your Solstice GXP, and with 70 less horsepower. And 22 years ago, with 22 year old aerodynamics (although the T-bird had one of the best aerodynamics of any car sold in its day - 0.35cd with recessed headlamps!, flush by 1987).
There are a lot of factors in play with top speed besides horsepower and weight.

That 20 mph warning setting could be useful if the car is used for parade duty. Given that it isn't a convertible and the 2.0T isn't great for towing, I find that an unlikely situation.

Agreed: Hp, torque, and weight aren't a predictor of top speed.

Wonder how accurate the speedometer of that '83 Tbird was. Older vehicles I've driven have been off by as much as 10% -- that is, speedometer reading 100, actually doing 90.
Just for fun, my brother's former Jetta 1.8T, with a performance chip and CAI, topped out around 145. Best case estimate is 230 hp. So can your 2.0T hit 150? Probably not in stock tune, but I don't think 140 is out of the question.

i dont know about this a4 but the previous one had a limit to 130mph due to the american speedrated tired. in europe it was 150 or 155mph. remember, this is a german car

As previously hinted, this is for the various speed ratings of tires. In Germany people often replace their tires with cheaper ones, which have a lower speed rating, especially snow tires, because they have no intention of going 150 mph. (all VW AG 2.0T approach a top speed of 150 mph in Europe, and around 130 mph in the US) Because of these lower speed rated tires you will often find stickers on the dash in Europe, indicating the maximum recommended speed due to the restrictions of the tires. Audi has simply added a feature with software (very little cost) to replace these stickers. This also provides the additional function of setting an alarm for any speed you may wish to avoid. Audi has decided to leave this feature for the American market since it has no negative effects.

My aunt's 1988 Subaru XT-6 had one of those, but it was 55 MPH and couldn't be changed. That was a fun car... when it ran. Had 3 transmissions replaced under 80k. Only 2 were under warranty :-P
