The 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe has been getting all of the attention lately. What with its good looks, compact size and G37esque-for-less performance, it's no real surprise.
But we don't have one around anymore so we brought our Long Term 2009 Hyundai Genesis V6 out to the track for our usual battery of performance tests including 0-60, quarter-mile, 60-0 braking, slalom and skidpad. Follow the jump for full specs and testing data.

Db @ Full Throttle: 74.0
Db @ 70 mph Cruise: 66.4
Acceleration Comments: Best run w/ traction off: power brake to about 2,000 rpm then release brake and wood the throttle in "d." No manual shifting. Right rear wheel spinds but only minimally. Shifts arrive near redline.
Braking Comments: Stops were consistent and pedal feel good. Did get some minor pedal fade later during accel testing, however.
Handling Comments: (Skid pad) Good stability control calibration. Follows steering inputs closely and doesn't punish overshoots with too much throttle intervention. Decent body control for a car this comfortable. (Slalom) Stability off = longer leash but not truly off. Smooth steering inputs keep the stab control at bay here. Otherwise it will punish with heavy brake / throttle interference. Otherwise, predictable, stable and easy to place. Good for a car this big / heavy.

6.2 Sec. 0-60 in the V6? I'd like to see the V8...

Genesis looks good in that stance. This morning while driving to work, saw a gold colored one Genny. Had a tremendous road presence.

Ok, i smell a 7 series comparo coming on.

Freaking awesome braking distance considering it's all season tires on this family sedan.
Acceleration is really solid too. A mid 14 second quarter mile time is very respectable for the weight of this car and considering it's the "base engine".
Damn, this means my boss would actually give my stock Legacy GT a run for the money :)

Very respectable performance indeed.

I agree, very respectable performance. This outperformed your long-term CTS. I think much of it is due to the fact that the CTS is slightly heavier. 3,864 lbs vs 4,005 lbs. If the Genesis had performance tires on it I'm sure it would have completely blown away the CTS.
Next comparison: Genesis vs 7 Series? or how about Genesis vs G8 GT?

No reason to get the V8 with those kind of numbers.

I am been curiously following all week the results of the Genesis sedan drive and they are very good. Hyundai has proven itself to a big time player. The Coupe is following in the same manner.

These are really impressive numbers. From behind the wheel the car really doesn't feel like it can achieve them, but I am pleasantly surprised that it can.
On a side note, the Gensis is super quiet. In fact the Lexus LS and Mercedes-Benz S are the only two I can think of that are quieter, and the Genesis is actually slightly quieter than the S at idle. Although, for me, I really like being able to hear the big V8 burbling away; you cannot even hear the Hyundai V8 at idle (I have no frame of reference for the V6).

From that angle, it may well be a G sedan, except for the grill and weird wheels.

Good numbers. I'm curious, though, if Hyundai is going to update the 3.8L to QOHC "Lambda II" status, like the new 277HP 3.5L V6 for the new Kia Sorento and as-of-yet unnamed Kia VG (and presumably next Hyundai Grandeur/Azera). If the same HP/L ratio held as for the 3.5L, it'd bump the 3.8L up to about 300HP for this application. I assume with tuning more for power than MPG, the Genesis Coupe might get up around 320-325. Combined with the new 8-speed for the sedan, that should drop these acceleration numbers a bit

I've gotta drive one of these things once and for all and see what all the hooplah is about.
