2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo GSR: Admiring the Shiny Bits

wheel1-555.jpg

Sorry to be so superficial, but I am. After driving our ridiculously fast Evo GSR last night, the one thing that stuck in my head was the look of the new wheels. I mean look at that sucker, you're not going to get anything like that from the factory. The dual finishes, the deep lip, it's gorgeous and looks great on the GSR.

When I was done admiring the Evo's shiny parts, I did actually get in and drive the car to sample all the new mods. This thing was freakishly fast before, now it's almost scary. 12-second street cars tend to feel that way.

Strangely enough, the GSR is still very drivable on the street. It's idle is lumpy and the boost comes on hard, but it started right up on a cold damp morning and didn't mind me lugging it away from the curb so I wouldn't disturb the neighbors.

Once up to proper temperature, it was still the hooligan machine I remember, just cranked up another notch or two. Definitely feels more engaging than the GT-R even if it's not quite as fast. At least not yet.

Loving the wheels. I have a similar styled set on the Civic (Rota GT3), yet the spoke color is bronze and the lip is polised.

Those wheels are absolutely gorgeous. Please lower it, though, so it doesn't have the same dump truck stance as my SRT-4:

Looks like Edmunds is well on way to GT-R Junior.
Wonder how high the HP can go before running into major drivetrain issues?

Do I see locking lugnuts?

Fortune cookie reads: I sense a number ending in 71 or 76 in the near future for this car.

Chrome on wheels... sort of a turn-off... people's taste differ.

If I keep the MS3 I think that I'm going with the Enkei RS-M; the 18" wheel weighs only 17.8 lbs.- that's @6 lbs. than the stock wheel.

"It's idle is lumpy and the boost comes on hard"

Yummy! I've acquired a taste for lumpy idling from my drag strip days.

Mentally - I think that's polished aluminum, not chrome.

Thanks doug! Most people I run into look at it and ask what it means.

jkavanagh says:

Mentally and joefrompa--it's neither. It's a machined lip. Not polished, and definitely not chromed.
