2002 BMW M3: Chugs past 70,000 Miles

milestone-banner-blog.jpg M3-odo.gif

As I mentioned recently in a previous post, we bought our E46 M3 15 months ago with a tick less than 50,000 miles on its odometer. Well, last night I jumped in the black coupe to drive home and noticed its odometer read 70,000 miles exactly.

To commemorate the milestone I drove it home like I stole it. Great car.

On a closed course, right?

Well you can't drive a stolen car on a close course, so probably not. Congrats, I'm glad you still love the car. Too bad you won't have it for much longer. My low ball offer the ST-40's still stands for the record.

Glad to hear that you'll be at the Bluegrass School. I'll probably be driving either my Blue Mazdaspeed 3 or my Red 318ti Club Sport. Unless I buy another Bimmer...;)
What class will you be running in?

20k miles in 15 months comes out to an average of 16k/yr. That's a lot of driving!

Since the M3 is going to be gone soon, here are a couple of pix of my '01 M3 after a bath. Black cars only stay clean for 1 day, but during that day they look great.

Nice wheels, m_thrizzle! Are those BBS CH or RE wheels?

m_thrizzle, That's a beautiful car. I had a Black 1988 M6. Not a wise color choice when you live at the end of a 2500' gravel driveway. It was clean for maybe two hours over the three years I owned it.

Aft you guys finish with it you should detail the overall costs (separate out the mods like the BBK).

One of the things that kept me from getting an 03 M3 a couple of years ago was the old adage "Never own a BMW out of warranty". I figured if I was pushing the limit buying it used I just wouldn't be able to afford the repairs and maintenance.

I just found a 2002 M3 for sale on AutoTrader- within 90 miles of my house. Imola Red, FSH, 69.5K miles. The ///M bug is biting again, and it's incurable; I NEVER, NEVER, N E V E R should have sold the M6.

Well I'll probably be in the C group for the HPDE.. that's what I was this past weekend at Putnam.
I hope the track is ready by then as it was supposed to be ready last week and isn't even close.

If you do any autox, I'm at all the SCCA events as well. I'm running STU there.

subytrojan those are BBS CH wheels for sure. Never even heard of BBS RE. BBS, BBS RGR, BBS RS-GT, BBS LM, etc, but not BBS RE

Suby, they are 19" CH wheels. I love the look but combined w/ the Bilstein suspension, the ride is fairly rough.

I used to Auto-X. It's a real blast. However, I finally collected a trophy at O'fest 1994 and decided to quit at the top of my game...;)

I like this car - its styling still looks great. Why don't you all keep this car for a year or two longer? Then you could do a longer term, long-term test.
