2009 Nissan GT-R: More new tires

So our 2009 Nissan GT-R needs new rear tires. You don't think it has anything to do with the way we've been driving do you? This video is a prime example of what can happen when you put fresh tires on the front of a car and leave worn ones out back and go tearing around a skidpad. That's test driver Josh Jacquot's voice you hear over the radio at the beginning of the video. He's clearly a fan of this setup.

Total cost: $903.52 for a set of Bridgestone Potenza REO70R size 285/35R20. Stokes Tire Pros here in Santa Monica ordered them Wednesday, they showed up Thursday and were installed in about an hour (busy day).

Note the large strip of missing rubber.

"stokes tire pros has got to love you guys."

They picked a good location-- about a mile from our office!

Plus, they're race-car guys. They get it, they do good work.

Yet another reason I'm down on some modern performance machines...they go to huge 19 and 20 inch wheels, sometimes bigger, to fill the wheel wheels and look cool but tires cost a FORTUNE. Remember when sports cars could run on 16s or 17s and both look good AND perform?

With every passing year I get more annoyed with new cars...

But when 17" wheel diameters were Super Size, as they were on my 1997 M3, they still cost about $400 per tire. Michelin Pilot SXX3 - the best tire.

You know how much Edmunds staffers "do not like the GT-R"?

So much that it has accumulated nearly twice as many miles per month since in-service date with Edmunds than the the "beloved" Audi RS-8 and nearly 50% more mileage per month than the reverer Pontiac G8. Finally about 30% more mileage per month than the BMW 135i.

18,000 miles in 8 months folks. It works out to 75 miles each and every day. That's not a mere liking. It's tantamount to an addiction.

And today's Inside Line lead story: The GT-R Spec-V, a car that isn't even coming to the US.

When it comes to the GT-R Edmunds needs to run the header from the Jay's Potato Chips catch phrase: "Can't stop driving it."

clarkma5,
No. No I don't remember. Relook at those yester years performance numbers and be shocked, "Whoa, it was that slow?!? Back then I thought 0-60 in 9 seconds was blistering fast!"

It seems the rears are the first to go here.
Which of all your supercars is the favorite drift machine?

So two new tires were less than half the price of an oil change?

Oil changes are only $175 so unless the tires cost 87.50...
