2009 Mazda 6: What The Squeak Too?

Immediately after getting into the 6, I noticed the steering wheel squeaked as I turned it from side to side. It sounds like leaves brushing against the side of a house in a storm.

I blasted the column with some canned air thinking I might get rid of the dirt and dust. It lessened the noise, but the ghost remains.

It's going in for service very soon so we'll get it looked at and let y'all know.

Not encouraging.

You know, that does look similar to the Aura's steering wheel. Hmm.

aura's wheel was a little less "luxurious"

"It sounds like leaves brushing against the side of a house in a storm"

So it's less of a "squeak", more of a "ssssssssshh".

I don't think Mazdas come from the factory lubricated very well. From experience my Mazda sounds better after the 15,000 mile service with full lubrication.
Maybe you should just tell the dealer to lube it all now.

Ya I've never heard leaves make a squeaking noise. I guess squeaky trees aren't native to Colorado.

I might have missed the memo, but what ever happened to the random red line on the dash display? Did it fix itself?

In my experience, Mazdas tend to age backwards. My three (two previous and my MS6) Mazdas have all had squeaks, rattles, stuck door handles, failed keyless remotes, CELs, etc. in the first month off the lot, but with a little driving all of the problems seem to vanish. My MS6 has zero squeaks, rattles, etc. after 60,000 miles and has had no random problems whatsoever, and my old Protege was problem free as well (even though the CEL came on and the passenger door handle refused to be pulled at about 500 miles).

A squeek is worth it. Its something that is easily fixed and look at the interior and exterior. All cars have first year bugs. At least its not the transmission falling out. I would take a rattly squeeky groany Mazda6 over a CamCord anyday. Gotta LIVE a little in these times. Why be stuck in a boring (or worse, ugly) car when cars like the Mazda6, Passat/CC exist? Mind boggling.

My '09 Mazda 6 sSport trim only has a bit over 700 miles on it. It's a Daily Driver, that's been with me one month today. Haven't had it that long, but the steering wheel on my 6 definitely doesn't squeak. In fact, nothing on the car squeaks. Not even the rather numb brakes.

I'm thinking the problem might be an issue with this particular Long-Term 6, and not a general one with every 6 coming out of Mazda.

Count me in the group that never heard squeaky leaves. Where is this magical place?

Pardon me for asking, but with the CTS, Josh "Sad But True" Sadlier posted about squeaks and rattles but refused to take it to the dealership to have the problems addressed, stating:

"I doubt the dealership would have much to tell us about the squeaks and rattles; it's rare that even a trusted independent mechanic will take the time to ferret out the noise-causing culprits and get rid of them, let alone a dealership.

But even if they would, the point for me is that one shouldn't have to worry about squeaks and rattles at 26k miles and two years old. That's the disappointing part."

Scott, as long as you're willing to take cars in to the shop to have squeaks and rattles addressed, could you do the same with the CTS? At absolute minimum, we could see what experience you had at each shop when you complained about squeaks.

I had the same issue, is so frustrating.
The dealer here in Mexico didn't know how to remove. They need more experience. The dealer says that the noise comes from tires, but not, that noise comes from the steering.
