The smart key on the Skyline R35 partially puked last night. I wasn't able to unlock either door with the door mounted switch -- I had to use the remote key, which worked fine. The car started up, no problem, with the key in my pocket. Mike knows about it and will monitor.
This my first time to drive it after the reprogramming, and I got some wheelspin last night. I got away from a few stoplights somewhat quickly, but didn't floor the pedal, and the traction control came on. I definitely felt some wheelspin - I think maybe more than before the reprogram(?) But I have to check with Josh on this.
Oh yeah, the photo above has nothing to do with this blog. It's just an archived Jacobs shot that I didn't want to go to waste. It's suitable as a screensaver, don't you think?

Also, it's not that it allows more wheelspin now, but rather that VDC comes in sooner and has a stronger hand when shutting down wheelspin.

It's actually the V35. Different chassis than the R-series.

"It's not a skyline. "
It should have been. The name Skyline has a great history and is easy to identify as a Nissan.
GT-R could be anything.

@estreka,
Actually Al's right to call it the R35. V35 refers to the first-generation Infiniti G35 (sold in Japan under the Skyline name). Nissan designated the GT-R "R35" to underscore its Skyline GT-R heritage (R32, R33, R34).

A Skyline is a nothing car. Its a pedestrian version of a car. A Lancer Evolution is a Lancer, but the driveline means we call it an Evo. I don't personally group the Evo with a Lancer. Not the same car to me, at all.
The older Skylines were made for moms, school teachers, and secretaries. 4 doors , 2.0 and 2.5 liters , normally aspirated , some turbos. 13 different variations on the R32 Skyline.
The GT-R however started in 1969 and ended in 1973 , but really came into its own in 1989. A 1989 GT-R is a very different animal than a Skyline. Twin turbo 2.6 liter , all wheel drive , Hicas , wider fender flares , aluminum hood and fenders.
In conclusion a Skyline is a car your mom drives , a GT-R is a mans car.

Was GT-R wheelspin was on wet roads? Is your GT-R outfitted with super-summer tires (not sure at this point)?
It's truly amazing how different tires can change a car's attributes.

@tyndago,
"A Skyline is a nothing car. It's a pedestrian version..."
That's like saying a regular 3 Series is a pedestrian car compared to the M3 -- true, but misleading, because many non-M 3 Series models (e.g., all three of our stateside 3s: 328i, 335i, 335d) are impressive sporting cars in their own right.
If you're talking about the n/a 2.0-liter Skyline, then sure, that's a nothing car, like the four-cylinder BMW 318 or something. But the n/a 2.5-liter Skyline was a pretty respectable sport coupe (I owned one, R32 GTS25), and the turbocharged models were sports cars in coupe/sedan clothing.
Saying "a Skyline is a car your mom drives" indicates that you're not very familiar with Skylines.

tyndago, this is JeffC AKA JDM Addict.
I had this exact same discussion with SadButTrue extensively before, he refused to agreed with me. Sounds like he had a ER34 GT-T in Japan and he thinks he knows everything about Skyline. So save your typing, but then I want to see you bring out some drama, so actually call him out! Here are the dialog if you want to read it:

SadButTrue, tyndago is probably the one guy that know the most, have done the most with everything Skylines or GTR related in the entire USA. His obsessive level with Skyline/GTR is beyond anyone's imaginations. He is in my opinion the #1 Skyline/GTR nerd in the USA, by far. He was taking apart GTR before most people in this country know what a Skyline is. So yeah, he is a little familiar with Skylines.
lazyhater says:

And Albert Austria the Snake Doctor refused to stop calling the R35, a Skyline.
lazyhater says:
11:53 AM, 02/13/09
So Albert Austria, are you going to continue to keep calling the new R35 SpecV, a V-Spec? Because all Skylines in history, was a V-Spec, are you going to refused to accept the new SpecV designation?
lazyhater says:
12:03 PM, 02/13/09
To give everyone tyndago's level of obsession on Skyline/GTR, everything Skyline/GTR related that happens in this world, he knows intimate details about it that nobody knows, and most likely are good friends with the guys who did it.
And everything Skyline/GTR related that happens in the USA, most likely he did it, or at least involved with it, he was there when it happened.
I really believe tyndago is mentally sick, he is so hooked on GTR, his entire life is submerged in it. I thought I was crazy about GTR, I know nothing compare to tyndago.

lazy,
Yes, we've had this conversation before, and I'm still right. Suffice it to say that if someone's mom is driving one of the turbocharged R32, R33, or R34 Skylines, that is a mom I would love to meet.
My condolences to tyndago for his mental illness.

All non-GTR Skylines, even if it is turbocharged, even with 4WD, are just regular people's car, like a 330i. It just got a little more power then the non-turbo ones. It really is a soccer mom's car. When my friend first got his R34 GTR brand new back in the days, he dynoed his stock GTR along with his friend's turbo 2.5L R34 Skylines, AKA ER34 GT-T. His stock GTR put down 280 whp, where the GT-T put down 190 whp. The GTR was way under-rated, and the GT-T was way over-rated, since both of them had a 280 PS rating from Nissan. All non-GTR Skylines are basically like the G35, got enough performance to be consider as a non boring fun car, but not enough to be consider as a high performance cars.

SadButTrue,
I like to apologize though, I really should just keep my mouth shut. As just like everything in life, everything is relative, all depends on points of view and what someone is used to.
Some people think a Sentra SE-R is hardcore, but some people think a 997 GT2 RS is too boring, too soft, it is all relative.
Like how an extremely fast car is boring to people who are into fast bikes or planes. And a guy in china that ride a bicycle all his life think most cars are really fast.....etc.

"The older Skylines were made for moms, school teachers, and secretaries. 4 doors , 2.0 and 2.5 liters , normally aspirated , some turbos. 13 different variations on the R32 Skyline."
No matter what the version, nearly all were great for tuning and handling high horsepower with stock internals, from the RB20 to the RB26. As an R34 GT-R owner and an R33 before that , I prefer the extra displacement but to call the other versions non suitable for man is the wrong statement, since nearly every Skyline, no matter what the engine, had some form of modification done to them. Except maybe the ones you get in America......
Ps. I have seen a lot of Skylines but only a handful of the drivers were women and that was in Japan and Australia.

bicycles are fast. And it exposes your whole body to the airstream, which is just awesome.
Cars are for boring play it safe losers who don't want to feel life surround them.

lazy,
Last word: if you want to argue that a sport coupe/sedan with available four-wheel steering and a pretty thrilling selection of turbocharged motors (your dyno results notwithstanding) is "really a soccer mom's car," then I don't know what to tell you -- other than, again, that's a mom I'd love to meet.
Yes, the non-GT-R Skylines are like the G35 or 330i (though in their day they were really more like the 335d/335i). And the G35 and 330i are thought of as soccer moms' cars by precisely one person in the world: you. To everyone else, they're legitimate performance cars, as were those Skylines. Nuff said.
lazyhater says:

SadButTrue,
I am done arguing with anyone, it is pointless as everything is relative.
In this past weekend alone, I saw soccer mom.....well I said soccer mom, but they are just mom age ladies in their 40s, they were driving DB9, S65, Continental GT Speed and a 997 Turbo convertible. That doesn't make those cars soccer mom's car, but they were indeed driven by some moms. Everything is relative.
