Yeeeeeeee-haaaaaaaaaw!!
I took the GT-R to the NASCAR race at California Speedway (below) this past weekend. Like everywhere else I haven taken it, the car was a hit. You see, the R35 doesn't know any demographic boundaries. Regardless of background, everyone loves it.
That is, every guy loves it. Although I got some thumbs up, parking lot shout outs, fuel station shout outs, and a few small parking lot gatherings as shown in the pic above -- for whatever reason -- all the fans were guys.
The R35: for every car guy.

"for every car guy"...the thing weights over 3800 pounds, you must be joking right? Sorry I don't fall in love with overweight tubs, my standards are higher than that.

They had a white GT-R at a very local (county level) car show a couple of weeks ago and I was thrilled to be able to sit in it and look the car over.
I would never buy a GT-R without a proper manual transmission, but it is a great piece of engineering none the less.

I'm actually very surprised. I got booed when I drove a 2003 BMW 3-Series down to Dover for a race.
GO #14!! (ex-#20)

I think it's ironic that your license plate has FWD in it.

aerodax,
the murcielago lp640 is around 3800 lbs. The SL65AMG/black series/mclaren is over 4000lbs. Ferrari 612/599 are somewhere around gt-r's weight. Those cars are world class performers so I'm not exactly sure how much higher your standards are and what exactly falls into that category. =)

Nissan still doesn't call it a Skyline GT-R. They haven't in any of their press information, but plenty of people still want to call it a Skyline GT-R. I wonder who will give up first, Nissan, or the rest of the world ?
As far as GT-R's go , they attract a lot of men. Perfect car for an ugly woman or a gay man. (Thats a joke).

The ZR!: for every automotive enthusiast
Not saying the ZR1 is better, just saying that every car guy likes a third pedal.

ctpax,
Nice job failing at logic. I mentioned nothing about the car other than it's weight. Performance has nothing to do with my comment. It weighs TOO MUCH to be a car "for every car guy" based on the simple fact that it weights to me for ME.

oh I get it. You consider yourself a car guy but since you don't like the gt-r, the car must not be for every car guy. Because there is at least one car guy that doesn't agree with the statement "for ever car guy", what snake doctor wrote must be false.

How about this is a damn impressive piece of engineering.
Yes you may love the feel of a 'true' manual, but for you Nissan offers the splendid 370z.
This is about building THE most technologically sophisticated car there is and using technology to push the limits of what a car is capable of. Some enthusiasts are more about the basics, others more about the cutting edge.

I guess it's inevitable.

Who cares how much it weighs?
The performance numbers are what counts....
Any word from Nissan if they'll be implementing the dual-clutch rear-transaxle setup on any of their other vehicles?

OMG, Albert Austria stopped calling the R35 as a Skyline!? Why? I thought you said you will call it a Skyline forever, regardless of what anyone think?
You still haven't answer my question if you will call the SpecV as a V-Spec?

"Who cares how much it weighs?

I care about how much it weighs. Weight hurts performance everywhere..... acceleration, braking, handleing, mileage.. all would be better if the car was lighter.
That's why my favourite super car is the Lotus Elise. Proof you don't need 400 hp+, giant tires and AWD to have extreme performance.

Hi Albert, awesome post! Sounds like these "car guys" really like the Nissan GT-R. It seems like everybody loves it, no matter what their background.
Am I correct in assuming the Nissan GT-R is a racy, high-performance car?

Take a look at what vacagrande said. "Although this was in CA, not NC..."
You were in Dover.....close enough to NC and what most people from the North consider the South. Your way to close to the Heart Land of NASCAR to not drive an american car to a race. Thats a shame cause even Toyota has crossed over the line and won races but you still get yelled at for driving one to a race (myself at Richmond). Its just them "Good O'l Boys" mentality.

Interestingly enough, my mother felt the need to call me a couple of months back and tell me that she just parked next to a GT-R and that she really liked the way it looked. Bizarre. O.o

Interesting posts from Edmunds on the GT-R. But... another typical discussion dominated by "sword fighting" and people afflicted by Napolean's Syndrome:
911 Fanboy: "GT-R Sucks"
GTR Fanboy: "GT-R Rocks"
Vette Fanboy: "Real men drive Corvettes"
GTR Fanboy: "Real men? U mean, 50,balding
sporting a mustache?"
911 Fanboy: "Pimply, pocked-faced, techno
GTR driving Brats."
Vette Fanboy: "Jap Crap"
911 Fanboy: "Too Heavy. BTW, NASCAR sucks"
Vette Fanboy: "911 Fanboy, ur an idiot"
911 Fanboy: "Vette Fanboy, ur trailer trash."
Vette Fanboy: "GT-R ugliest POS ever made"
GTR Fanboy: "Ugly is as ugly does"
911 Fanboy: "Kiss my Wall Street Ass"
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.....it the same thing over and over and over.

I have a weird feeling this flaming war going here would've been a little different had Nissan just released the R34 Skyline GTR in north America.
Has anyone seen the size comparison between the R34 and R35. Like an E30 M3 and E92 M3 sitting next to each other.

I like a 1/2 ton pick up because it can sound good and it can haul the orange shirt guy in the pictures arse around.
I dont know what to be classified as, car guy, car afficiando Car-ista or what. but I if the vehicle does cool stuff like go fast I on board with it

To whomever thinks that every real car guy must have a stick-shift manual: you need to get your head out of the sand. Ever heard of Formula One? Welcome to the 21st Century. Technology has actually advanced to the point that you can actually upshift or downshift faster with an automated paddle shifting clutch than a stick-shift. Cars like the Ferrari F430 and the GT-R have this sort of technology, but I guess you're still hanging on to the 20th century?
