I don't frequent dry cleaners. Partly because I don't wear things nice enough to dry clean and partly because I'm too lazy/cheap to venture to a dry cleaners. An uncontrollable urge to ride on the wicked cool hanging conveyor belt is another reason. But I went to the dry cleaners yesterday and I was driving the 2009 Honda Fit..
When I got back with my hands full of hangers, I discovered the Fit's left rear seat bottom was flipped up. I had often extolled the virtues of this feature, but I realized another use last night. As the picture shows, I could hang all those shirts, jackets and dresses up on the oh schmidt handle without them getting crunkled up on the seat bottom. And no, those aren't my dresses. Not that there's anything wrong with a dude who has dresses, but they're not mine. Where was I?
Oh yeah, the Honda Fit is really good at picking up dry cleaning. How's that for real-world, affordable car impressions?

For some reason, I find it hard to not like the new Fit. Kinda like the Mini, Fit looks good, does it's work without complain or drama.
Another reason why Honda might emerge stronger than other companies in this recession. They have quality products whether you want to downsize or upsize. A Yaris or Aveo don't do that for their parent companies.

Are those bag hangers or supports for the seat on the bottom of the seat?
The housing for the middle seat belt would distract me every time I looked in the rear view mirror. They could have done a better job integrating it into the interior than that.

Those little knob doo-hickeys on the bottom of the seat hold a small underseat compartment closed. Its kind of hard to explain without pictures or being in the car.
JRiz- Might you grace us with a video of that little storage compartment?
I was suprised how big the fit feels when you are sitting in it, compared to how big it actually is.

Hey JRiz, great post!
That Honda Fit seems like a great little real-world car.
So I was thinking: how does it do hauling dry cleaning?
Thanks!

While I hate that color... you have to admit that this little Honda has a ton of very clever and useful engineering built into it.

I disagree, there is something wrong with a man wearing a dress, unless he's Scottish.

Well, I am half Scotish.
But to reiterate, I don't wear dresses.

I was at the Chicago Auto show last week and showed about 5 random strangers how to flip the back seats in the different configurations. I was suprised their was no Honda rep on the floor doing that. I guess all the manufacturers scaled back their booths this year.
This or the Insight will be my next car..

I really like the Fit, most especially the innovative rear seats. Simply brilliant. If I'm ever shopping for a small car, it's at the top of my list.

After several months of ownership I can't find much fault with my wife's '09 Fit Sport. As this review illustrates it is very practical and versatile. And on top of all that it really is fun to drive. It's got me thinking that I might just WAY downsize on my next vehicle.
And it doesn't just seem big inside - interior space is pretty much the same as the externally much larger Civic.

Seems like it's one cool little car, with some pretty clever tricks inside. I think it'd be a fun first car, too.

The new Fit is the ultimate car. It's just so useful for anything. The cargo area with rear seats folded is HUGE, since the backseats fold into the floor as if you never had 2nd row seats (Honda does some funky double hinge to make that happen).
I didn't get one myself because it looks like a ball like Pikachu. But I'd complement anyone else who has one.

Cool, I've had my 09 Fit for about a month now and I never thought of doing that for my dry cleaning. Neat, I'll have to give that a shot next time I pick up my clothes. Not that it's a big deal to have them drape over the seat since the dry cleaners is a 2 minute drive from my apartment. Hardly enough time for them to get wrinkled.
No, there is nothing wrong with a man having dresses as long as those dresses are for his wife, but there is everything wrong if they're for him.
