During our Long-Term 2008 Evo GSR's cam swap a couple weeks ago, we took the opportunity to have the oil changed since the sump had to be drained anyway and the 15k mile service indicator had come on.
I spied some Mobil1 5W-30 on the dealer's shelf while I was there to pick up a fresh oil filter. When asked how much per quart, the guy at the counter replied, "Oh, you don't want to buy it here. It costs too much. It's $10.25 a quart. We don't really get much of a price break when we buy it."
How about that--an honest dealer. Long Beach Mitsubishi, if you're wondering.
At the Autozone two blocks away I paid a total of $45.40 for six quarts of the stuff. The dealer charged $6.73 for the filter. Not bad at all.

I guess you guys aren't up on the recent. M1 5w30 synthetic is one of the worst values.....it's a crappy synthetic oil that is way overpriced.
Valvoline recently made a public statement saying that M1 5w30 does not pass one of the API wear tests that is required for API certification. Castrol is now beating up on M1 saying that the new "Castrol Edge" has "8x lower wear" in one of those API tests.
There is a theory that M1 5w30 Extended Performance is ACTUALLY the original formula of M1 5w30, and the current M1 5w30 has decreased in quality. This is mainly based upon almost all Oil Analyzes done on M1 5w30 showing significantly increased Iron wear occuring across a very wide variety of engines/makes/models/situations.
Go to your local Walmart and pick up 5 quarts of Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 for aobut $23. It's a far better oil for far less dime.
Besides which, with all the tuning you have done to this car and the fact that it's in Southern California, shouldn't you be buying, you know, a SERIOUS oil? Redline 10w40? AMSOIL 5w40? Rotella T 5w40 synthetic? At least Mobil One 0w40 european car formula.
