2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT: Service and a surprise

2008_dodge_caravan_service555.jpg

Last week I took our Caravan in for a routine oil change. The on board computer requested it.

I drove it to Buerge Chrysler Jeep in Los Angeles because they're close and because they have an express lane that promises a quick in-and-out experience while you wait. (You know, the way it used to be before they realized they can drag an oil change out to three hours of billable work.)

It took an hour to their 25-minute claim and when I was checking out, my service advisor told me there was a recall on the power-steering hoses. They didn't have the parts in stock but they're on order. I should be getting a call sometime this week about 'em.

Total cost: $27.84

27 bucks for an oil change. Thats pretty darn cheap considering the price of motor oil.

Oil isn't expensive, especially the stuff they're probably using.

Nothing like a surprise recall when you come in for a checkup. Just gives you that warm fuzzing feeling.

Buerge blows. Great for cheap oil changes ( I used to get their $25 coupons all the time for me Jeep) but I had enough when they claimed I needed new pads and rotors because the pads were 'metal on metal'. I pulled the wheels off and saw that they were not even close. I'm now 15,000 miles on and still the pads are good. Second issue was I needed a new TPS unit. They wanted $400 for parts and labour. I bought the part for $60 and it took me 10 minutes to replace...
