2008 BMW 135i: Postcard From L.A.

Nothing makes me relish a Friday more than opening up the sunroof to soak in the warm and beautiful weather. And it's January! January! It's gorgeous outside. Sigh, I love sunroofs. Now if only this car had seat heaters, too. Heh.

Seat heaters? Why? As you noted, it's 80 degrees in January!

You So-Cal ers piss me right off. Please withhold any further pictures containing blue skys, palm trees, etc. Up here in Michigan we haven't seen blue skys and sunshine more than about twice this month, and today I was actually excited because the temps are supposed to actually hit 30 degrees today!!! And when I head to Chicago tonight I hear it's actually alot colder then it is here. This is one of the more depressing winters I can remember of recent memory. I swear I might just move out west soon!! That being said, I love when you guys act like rain and 50 degree temps mean that the world must be ending soon!

I don't like sunroofs. They always render the interior either too hot or too cold; they reduce the headroom in many cars; and it's just one more thing that can break -- and causes a huge hassle when it does.

Then again, I'm a weirdo and don't like the sun all that much.

Sorry Caroline, didn't mean to harsh your mellow. :P

I love my sunroof too. I've been driving around all day with it open and it's only 42 deg F here in Vancouuver (nice and sunny though, just leave the heater on).

The whole character of the car changes when you open it. Suddenly it's bright, airy and alive.

Not as good as a true convertible but a lot more practical when you need a family wagon.

BTW, my car is 18 years old and the sunroof works perfect, no worries.

Caroline I completly understand, it is nearly 70 degrees up here in San Jose today. Not quite warm enough for me to open the moonroof fully, but just tilting it makes me think of the weather that is to come.

The state may be about to collapse in on itself because of the budget deficit, but it is days like today that remind me why I love California.

Not a bad day indeed. Skateboarded in the morning at Venice Beach, then took my Dyna Street Bob to work instead of the cage.

There are some of the most ridiculous complaints about this car posted on here. If you wanted heated seats so badly, Insideline should have bought the car, like they do others, and you could have had it however you wanted; including with the Sport Package.

bimmerjay says:

bimmer13, your overreaction is equally ridiculous. I hardly took Caroline's comment as much of a complaint, especially having read about her penchant for heated seats many times before.

I'm with you audisport, it's far to cold and snowy for me to even want to see pictures like this. I would include the whole west coast though.

30f, however, if I'm not mistaken is above freezing. I won't lie, we're still well below that mark.

Misterfusion - I don't like 'em either. Same reasons you don't.

See? bimmerjay gets me. I want heated seats in EVERY car I sit in. Actually I won't limit that to cars. It would be really cool if movie theaters had them, too.

dderosa says:

Me too. I wish my desk chair was heated. And my couch. And the floor in my house.

I love sunroofs as well. Except for the one time I left mine open in the Grand Prix, not just vented but all the way open and naturally it poured all night long.

Needless to say, the car like an inch of water on the floor, but a few days with the doors open (inside this time) and it dried right out. I also agree with the heated seats thing - once you have them, you never want to be without them.

bimmerjay I wasn't talking to you as I was not talking directly to Caroline. I was referring to all the contributors that go out of there way to find negative comments about the car. But thanks...

I never use a sunroof; and I count myself very lucky that my salesperson was able to convince Munich to build my E36 without a hole in the roof. It's also one of the few things I still like about my MS3. What I don't like is being forced to take a sunroof; at least make it a delete option.

I love my sunroof and as a wanna-be athlete, I love my heated seats too. I have not had a car without heated seats or a sunroof since 2001. I open my sunroof at every opportunity -- it makes the driving experience so much nicer by making the cabin bright and airy but still maintaining a sense of being inside your own space.

Here's a dose of reality about the "great weather" - DROUGHT

California is in the worst drought in years. This is supposed to be the rainy season and it is relentless blue sky every day. It amazes me how many people rave about the great weather while their state turns into a desert.

dougtheeng says:

I like the heated seats but I can take or leave the sunroof. When I had one, I didn't actually use it that much. It'd be nice to have one in the MINI, since the panoramic sunroof is so large and would really open the car up. But as I say, take it or leave it.

jriz says:

As an added bit of useful information, the 135's sunroof is quite good. It's pretty large given the car's size and it actually lets in air, unlike so many other sunroofs that just make a lot of wind noise. The pop-up wind deflector is the sturdy plastic variety that looks like the parapet of a castle (rather than the mesh fabric design that usually results in just a lot of wind noise) and I prefer it.

I don't normally like sunroofs, but the 1's doesn't cut into legroom too badly and the fact it lets in air would mean I'd actually use it.

"doesn't cut into legroom too badly" ....oops?!?

jriz says:

EDIT!!!!

(we hate not having it too)

Although, one could argue that the sunroof doesn't in fact cut into legroom.

"What I don't like is being forced to take a sunroof; "

I can understand that point. I've seen too many cars over the years that force you to take expensive options you don't want (like leather or A/C) in order to get options you do want like a larger motor (or a sunroof in my case).
