2009 Nissan GT-R: Door Handles

nissan-gtr-handle-555.jpg

Have we ever shown you the door handles on the GT-R? Ooh, fancy.

This is a very special car and it deserves special details.

We know Ed doesn't like the handles on the Audi R8.

What car do you think has the best door handles?

I won't say which are the best; but I'll say that the vertical doors handles on the 350Z are the worst. Pity that Nissan didn't think of redesigning them for the 370Z...

The R35 GTR's handle is my favorite, it feels very solid.

The NSX handle is cool.

The C6 Corvette not haven't a handle is cool too, just a push button in a finger well!

While these handles are stylish, I think the best handles from a design and practicality point of view are the grab handles that most new cars have. Simply grab the handle, pull and you're done. With the GT-R handles you have to push with one hand and grab with the other (unless you can simply push card enough to get the door to pop open, then all is forgiven).

More silly door handles from Nissan! I agee that the 350z's handles are the worst. That was one of the first things I looked for on the 370, but alas they were not fixed.

I prefer the 370's door handles to these..at least there's only one action required not two-- push then pull. Plus, the GT-R's are just a rip off of Astons.

The C6 is awesome in concept, but in reality you push the button and then wait for the mechanism to pop the door.

I just like plain door pulls.

This design looks like married folks will find up scratching the paint pretty badly with their rings, and paint in an area that will be seen often.

Hey the Astons go the other way! So it is not a direct copy :-p

You're right boxermike. These are worst functioning. The 370z's are worst styling.

I am pretty sure Nissan uses this door handle in order to improve GT-R's aerodynamics.

Probably best not to drive these in Portland OR in winter as rain will freeze in those handle wells and keep the levers from moving.

They should have put these on the Z. The Z's look absolutely horrible, and is the top reason I wouldn't consider that car.

The best door handles ever were on the first-gen Miata. Small, metal, aerodynamic, good looking, easy to use, and bulletproof.

Next would be some of the older (late 70's) Mercedes handles. So solid.

Then BMW E46 after that.

Do they deploy outwards under hard braking, to act as air brakes?

So long as your hand fits in the slot, nothing beats the Corvette's form and function.

Have to agree that the best door handles are the ones that you simply have to grab and pull outwards (not upwards like on my Sunfire). The GT-R ones may impress your friends more, but I can see them just becoming downright annoying the more you drive the car.

For me, the best door handles of any vehicle that I've owned is my dearly departed 2003 Honda CR-V (grab and pull). My favorite, though, is my friend's Mini Cooper, where you just grab the handle and squeeze it so that it opens up. I love that feature.

I like it too, but some people don't care for the whole electronic opening thing. Its also confusing to first time users.

+1 I was recently at a car show featuring many old custom rods, of which I know very little about. I commented to my friend, "At least I know where they got the door handles." Turns out they're kind of popular among that crowd. And yes, my friend was slayed by my automotive knowledge...

I like how you have to finger the C6 Corvette to get it open. Kind of sexy...
