It may not be the best-selling vehicle in the U.S., but we thought we'd give it a shot. We've acquired an all-new 2009 Infiniti FX50 with the Sport Package.
Its 5.0-liter V8 engine is capable of 390 horsepower and should make for some interesting fuel economy posts.
All-wheel drive is standard and the FX comes with a seven-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control and rev-matched downshift capability.
Read the Introduction on Inside Line and let us know what you think.

Yikes. Why did you guys buy such an obnoxious car? Do you know what other people gonna think of you when you drive next to them?

They didn't buy it this time- Infiniti provided it. Sounds like this car is just a flame-magnet waiting to happen (both in posts and among commenters).
Aura redux, commence!

Gah, there should be a poll for the ghastliest, most ostentatious and vulgar vehicle in the long-term fleet. This would top the list.
Runners-up:
Evo (simply foul)
GT-R
M3
R8
X5
I was about to include the A4 as well, but then it's an Avant, so it gets immunity.

My favorite commentary about the looks of this vehicle is that it's front end looks like an angry whale had sex with a boot.
I'll say one thing for Infiniti: I've enjoyed looking at the FX35 and hearing it rumble past for years now....I think the new FX series will grow on us, eventually.

The fuel economy in this vehicle makes me cringe. This entire segment, as small as it may be, is a waste and anyone who buys into it should be ashamed.

I know I'm not supposed to, but I really like it. Very interested to see how far (and fast) you guys will actually try to drive with no hands or feet.
There's a reason the FX35 outsold it by an order of magnitude, but you've just had the new 3.7 V6 in the G37. If you're going to have one at all, might as well get the V8.

Let the whining begin.
"This entire segment, as small as it may be, is a waste and anyone who buys into it should be ashamed."
That's what I say about Gore and Pelosi's prvate jets. One trip to collect a Nobel prize burns enough fuel to run my Suburban for seven years.

It looks fine. I wouldn't have chosen a car with the black interior however, as in my onpinion it doesn't go to show off the high quality interior bits.

what a stupid choice.
top three reasons
1. its FUGLY
2. no utility
3. AWFUL fuel economy, on premium
even the FX35 would have been a better choice. this goes along with the bad decision to get another Evo, or to get an Evo at all.

Even if it was provided for free, I don't think it's worth the space it takes up in the blog. I think literally one person cares about this car, and they work PR for Infiniti. It's a completely useless and boring vehicle.
Oh, and ugly too.

Sometimes I think there is no logic to the cars you buy for the long-term fleet. You listened to us an bought an A4 and a Mazda6, then you buy this...this thing? Are you just buying these cars to pretend you're wealthy and drive them around LA with all the other poseurs? C'mon, an Audi R8 and a GTR? Stop pretending you're the Robb Report and start testing cars most of your readers actually buy. Seriously, who buys the Infiniti FX? I haven't seen one on the road in a month.
compliance says:

I think you are a bit off mbtech. This blog should have cars that most people would be able to afford, and would consider owning. But it should also have cars we would aspire to own if we had the means. The R8 and GTR are great additions in that respect. There is a lot of interest in them. The FX50 on the other hand doesn't fit either category.

You do realize that not many people in today's economy will be willing to put $55,000+ on a car. Especially an Infiniti

Doesn't anyone proofread these stories? The introduction linked off of the front page puts the fuel economy of the FX50 at 14 | 17. That's wrong. It's a mishmash of new and old. The FX45 was rated at 13 | 17 while the FX50 is rated at 14 | 20.

Love it! Great car I look forward to reading about. Not exactly what people are going to buy but... whatever. Rationality is for fools. If I had the choice between one of these and an X6... Infiniti please.

The comments about this vehicle were largely predictable -- typical SUV bashing, poor fuel economy, socially scorned, ugly, how can you people even think of a vehicle like this at this time, etc.
It's not my kind of vehicle, but -- whether all of us like it or not, some people do and were buying these things for a long time. So those who want these can buy them, and I'll buy high performance cars with powerful engines. Choice is good. No one should be "ashamed" for exercising their vehicle choice as long as they are prepared for the care and feeding of it.

cwc1,
you're totally right. who cares if someone wants to spend $60,000 on this beast of an SUV? I personally think it'd be an awesome car to own. I'm surprised nobody mentioned the exterior color, though. I went on the Infiniti website, and they have numerous color choices that are better than this. Oh well. I'm still looking foward to the blogs on this one.
