2008 Dodge Grand Caravan: Does This Tire Look Flat?

caravan-555.jpg Does the left rear tire on our 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan look flat to you? Well, not flat exactly, but maybe just low?

Actually, it does look kinda low in this photo, but in person, it looks pretty much like the rest of the tires, all of which were pumped to spec a mere 10 days ago.

For the second time in two weeks, the Caravan's tire pressure warning light illuminated. The first time, all of the tires were slightly off, but nothing major. Unfortunately, the warning light doesn't show which tire is low or offer the current PSI, so when the light came on this weekend, I had to check them all again to find the possible culprit.

The left rear was only down two pounds cold. Could that really be enough to set off the warning?

That's surprising that the Caravan does not have an individual tire readout. The Sebring convertible I rented once had a digital display in the tachometer (I think it was the tach) and it showed PSI in all 4 tires. I kept playing with it during the trip, fun! I hope Chrysler is not getting even cheaper and taking that feature out of its cars.

Oh... and it needs to be down more than 2 PSI for it to set off the alarm. I believe the threshold is 25% under-inflated.

Check the spare tire pressure.

Chrysler has two TPS systems, one with just the generic warning light and the more expensive individual read out option.

Sometimes tires look low even when set to factory spec. I usually end up overinflating a few psi (5-10%). While it doesn't eliminate the "low pressure" look on weak-sidewall tires, it helps. Maybe the van is just overloaded?

On my misadventure to Phoenix for Thanksgiving I also noticed that tires looked low. I checked them all and they were all within 2 psi of A-OK. I used another tire gauge just to be sure. It just doesn't look right.

To Carguy622, my '08 Town & Country has individual readings for each tire.

Tire looks underinflated... Our Nissan Quest's TPMS only gives a warning if the tire is below 30 PSI when the recomended pressure is 35.
